Hi, can anyone advise, ds is nearly 7 weeks old and bf, gets the odd bottle of expressed milk, alls going well and I am really enjoying it (he is my 4th but 1st time to bf) my only problem is tiredness, I can't get him down any earlier that 11 most nights it's 12, then he is waking several times during night, have two other toddlers so then up from 7 for the day and it's killing me, last night for eg he went down at 11:30, woke at 2 for 1/2 hour, then again at 4 for hour and 1/2, then again at 6:30, I don't really mind the night feeds just wish he would go to bed earlier, anyone any suggestions?? He is gaining weight and phn delighted with him

People will talk about routines and stuff, but IME babies pull their bedtimes earlier and earlier themselves without any special intervention.

My son was the opposite - his 'long' sleep usually started at around 5pm - 10pm. I tried a few times to shift it to later but it never made any difference - he still woke up at 10pm. It wasn't until he started sleeping longer and waking up later that he responded well to the actual feed being later - does that make sense? So when he was sleeping until midnight I could do the feed at around 6pm and by the time he was sleeping until 3am his feed had been at 7pm.
Basically, in my case there was no point me trying to change anything - he set the routine and eventually he fitted into a more natural night pattern by himself. It took until around 13/14 weeks though so hang in there!

Ok I can handle 13/14 weeks, 1/2 way there!! He doesn't really have any long stretch, will sleep for couple hours if we are out and about or he is on top of me other than that you get 5 mins here and there!! House if falling down around me, ironing is never ending (as you can imagine with 6 people) but baby is just taking up all my time, is it normal?? Going to first support meeting tomorrow, I'll have a list of questions!! Thanks for the replies Grin

Hi Twinnies just thought I'd say I could have written your posts! My DS os nearly 7 weeks too. Last night he stayed asleep from 10 - 215, woke again at 430 and then 6ish. It was the earliest he'd ever started his long sleep- usually 11 or 12.

He had been having one 4 hour sleep and a few shorter ones since 3 weeks but was horrendous last week - up every hour most nights then every 90 mins. Am so happy it's back to this!

I do understand the frustration though- my DP is desperate for us to establish a routine but it's just impossible with a breastfed baby. Hos response is always 'switch to formula' which causes many arguments.

I hope the support group goes well - and do let us know what they say about night sleeping and routines!

Hey bravelilbear, thanks for that, well all I got from the group was it's all normal, actually my baba sleeps more than most of them but was nice to know everyone else going through the same, feel alot more determined to keep going now, I'm getting the same, the magic formula will fix it all!!

Lol well that's not very useful! But like you say at least it's normal and we're not the only ones :)

It's good that you've found a group too... it's so nice to be able to hear the truth from people who've been there rather than the Disney propaganda you get from the HCPs.

Hope you get a routine soon!
