Dd is 21months and about a month or so ago we dropped to 3 feeds a day - morning, just before nap, and bedtime. Since Saturday evening (so 36hrs ish iyswim) she has struggled to latch on - it looks normal from the outside but sounds like she's chewing toffee very noisily, not able to get the suction right and can't be getting much milk. This morning she asked to feed a few times but after a few seconds of such a bad latch she says 'uh-oh' and leaves it. I asked if she wanted milk just now and she said no.
I tried getting her to open her mouth really wide, and shoving loads of breast in there but it hasn't worked.
Does this sound like she's weaning? I wanted to carry on till she as 2 but of course if this is it then that's it!
I thought they didn't lose the ability to latch until they were 5 or 6, or were feeding very infrequently.
It's weirdly coincided with putting her in her own room after being in a cot beside me, so feels like double separation. I don't know anyone in RL who has fed this long, so don't really have anyone to ask!
Anyone else had this experience? What happened?
Feeling a bit emotional (and tired as usual!)
