Hi All,

My DD is 18 weeks old and EBF. She has been really regular up until last week, going sometimes twice in one day. Last week she went a whole day and nothing, this week we are heading into the 4 th day. She is teething and had about 5 explosive nappies on Monday, the last being very slimey (sorry, TMI) and then nothing since.

I've done all the usual things that seem to help her along like a bath, cooled boiled water/sugar, a gentle laxative and even some orange juice....nothing at all apart from lots of farts. She has plenty of wet nappies. Also can't tell if she's cranky because of the teeth or bowel movement situation.....

Anyone else have any similar issues?

All advice greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Fiona

No direct experience but a friend of mine's ds, who was a similar age and was bf, used to do a weekly poo! It was a major event and destroyed whatever he was wearing at the time! Her hv wasn't worried but perhaps you should ring yours just to get some advice and/or reassurance.

Don't worry, it does happen from time to time. Dd at 4 months didn't do one for 5 days and ds went for a week sometimes.

Totally normal for a bf baby to go 1 - 2 weeks then do a poonami!

Thanks for the responses. Reassuring to know other peeps been in the same boat. Do you think it's got to do with the teething or perhaps a growth spurt? Definitely calling the HV tmw.

Thanks again,
Fiona

Friend of mine's DS didn't poo for 10 days once when he was a baby. HV just shrugged! If she doesn't seem uncomfortable, there's no need to give orange juice etc etc - just keep BF!

Totally normal. My 23 week old now only does one a week. They're epic.

My youngest didn't go for about 3 weeks once. He was fine. I think it's because breast milk has very little 'waste product'.

My DD didn't go for 9 days, when she was about 4 weeks old. We were very worried and took her down to A&E where they checked her tummy (for twisted bowel or something) and then told us she was "full of poo" and gave her a suppository. Cue poonami. She then would quite regularly go more than a week without doing a poo. Until, that is, I had a korma for tea - she has been regular as clockwork ever since!

My dd did 12 days at that age. Just make sure you take extra nappies and a complete set of clothes with you everywhere you go Smile

Oh, waiting with baited breath for this poonami!!
