Pain from stopping bfeeding. When does it go?

It's been a week now and my breasts have been incredibly sore, tender and swollen. They were feeling better over the weekend but I've just got up and they're really painful again. Is this normal? How long does it take to get better?

Do they feel very engorged? You can relieve the pain by using ice packs and hand expressing just enough to make you feel a bit more comfortable (a lot of mothers find doing this in a shower works well). If you only express enough to feel comfortable then it shouldn't increase your supply.

It took me 8 days for them to completely deflate. We had a really bad night on day 7 so I bf her (knew I shouldn't have!) and that seemed to completely drain them and then woke up the next morning without pain and no leakage and none since - been over 2 weeks now.

Hope it feels better soon Smile

Thanks. It was almost like my muscles had stiffened over night. Still very tender but a little better. I'm now on day 7 so maybe the end is near.
