Astrophe needs help again..screamings back on

Hello again all you wonderful people who have been helping me...please read the thread below "8 week old screaming and fighting the breast" if you are new to this saga!

DS was fantastic for 2 days on the one sided feeding, but has now gone back to screaming and arching again. I think my let down definately slowed down at first, but it seems like my body is compensating for the way I'm feeding and its making more milk again. Could this be the caes? And if so what can I do? He latches well and feeds well until the let down. He has also been feeding really often today (more than every 2 hours) and has started having some little vomits after feeds, which hw hasn't done much before...seems like maybe his stomach is upset, or maybe its just cos he is hysterical.

We just had a feed which went pear shaped when the milk let down, then on and off and choking and screaming for 10 mins, then 20 minutes of hysterical screaming until he exhausted himself and fell asleep for 10 mins. Now he is awake again and wanting to feed. I am at my wits end.

Ds did the same thing for a couple of weeks at around the same time - I think it was7/8 weeks and I remember wanting to call people in the middle of the night - it was so bad. I never found out what it was though. I lay back to feed but other than that couldn't do much and just had to endure it. Though I did find out later he had a cold, so his sore throat might not have helped. But it all got better after those two weeks and haven't really had that problem since. Sorry I guess that doesn't really help that much! Have you tried infacol/gripe water/ something for wind? I think wind can be a cause of them arching their back etc. so it might be worth a try? I remember that's what a bfing counselor told me when I was having that prob.

Astrophe - this happens. Ths is why I was careful to warn you not to assume everything was just fine after a few hours of 'peace'.

Here's what I suggest: I think you may be still making more milk than you need and you still have a powerful let down. Make sure you stick to 6 hours and no less before you change sides. In fact, you could extend it to 7.....try it and see.

Good luck.

I am sorry that you are still having a rough time. I was hoping that you and your ds were through the worst...

My SIL found that her dd2 really wanted to suck but not actually feed. She used to let her suck on her finger between feeds because she didn't want her to hve a dummy. I can't believe that I am writing/typing this but anything that could help you avoid dreaming about bottles and formula. (Off to run and hide now.)
