Infant feeding

I was thinking a lot of the posts are about the struggles of early bfing (oh yes, its hard at the start but thankfully for most it gets easy after a few weeks) and we could do with some smiles.

So here's mine: when dd was 6 weeks old my beloved house rabbit (aka surrogate baby before dd) was ill so poor vet had to cope with me feeding standing, feeding whilst helping with rabbits the examination. He looked a bit like this Blush

Hugs to all having a tough time. Here's to tea, Nutella, Lanisoh and taking it one feed at a time. X

Oh golly. That does sound difficult!

I've had to BF on the dentist's chair in the past - he was very good about it, poor bloke must have been very embarrassed. It was that or screaming baby.

Probably the trickiest thing and one to which I had to admit defeat was bfing while trying to saw the end off a shelf.

Not that odd...

Was on the train BF 3 month old LO. Woman sitting next to me said 'are you bottle or breast-feeding?'

I wanted to go "DUUHH!"

In the dentist's chair I've done!

Plus when dd was about 10 months she had been really under the weather for a couple of weeks and if she wasn't bfing, she was crying. I had cabin fever and no food/drink in the house. I HAD to get out. It was the middle of winter and I had on an enormous coat. I plodded round Sainsbury's with dd in the trolley seat, her leaning forward, me leaning forward, enormous coat bunched up to hide dd and she fed all the way round the shop. I think I walked for an hour, aimlessly mostly, chucked the odd thing in the trolley, hummed distractedly and then trudged home. I don't think anybody noticed.

In a sheep shelter, halfway up one of the fells above Eskdale.
DS was hungry and wouldn't wait til we got to the nice warm pub...

I love these threads Grin

My favourite locations so far have been a packed grandstand at Silverstone and a wall overlooking Niagara Falls. Fantastic views both times!

Similar to MsElisaDay, clinging to a scree slope on the side of a mountain in Mallorca.

Not that odd really I suppose but it was Grand national day, we'd been out with friends for lunch and the only table in the bar was right in the middle, DS started to wake and I looked around for somewhere comfy I could sit with him and feed when I noticed a little booth type table in the corner that no one was in, so I scooted over there with the baby and got comfy only to see DH and friends starin at me oddly. I ignored them, started feeding only to feel as though the entire pub was watching me. It was only then I realised is sat underneath the tv and literally everyone in the pub was looking in that direction ! I felt like a right exhibitionist!

Oh and in a submarine trip boat in Egypt that they filmed for a promo video. Constantly zooming in on the baybeee and my left tit!

Aeroplane loo, long haul flight and ds not keen on his feet touching the arm rests and kept 'planking' off them! So needed more room. Was not very pleasant I must say.

At the end of a very long journey, DD1 crying in the back of the car. I managed to whop one out and bend round the carseat and give her a feed. We were nearly home and couldn't bear to stop AGAIN. I was discreet for car drivers, but I did wonder what a passing lorry driver would make of it! Grin

In the back of a St Johns Ambulance ambulance - with a handful of teenage boy SJA cadets trying to not look embarrassed Smile

I was at a fete, with my first baby who I was not yet that confident about BFing - and there was nowhere to sit down and feed him. A SJA woman offered - she was a sweetheart Smile. It's donkeys years ago now but you just reminded me.

In a bird hide. I would recommend it - there was a seat (I don't think I'm coordinated enough to feed while walking round a supermarket!), nobody was paying any attention as they were trying to see the birds, and it kept DS1 quiet so we didn't scare all the birds away.

I probably shouldn't admit this (and I wouldn't recommend it, but it was desperate)

In the car driving to the south of France. DS2 was 6 weeks. We were stuck (not moving) in the most horrendous traffic jam caused by road works (so couldn't pull over or off the road) and he was screaming. DH held him to my left boob whilst I kept an eye on the traffic ahead, so if it started moving he could put him back in the car seat before we had to move. The most stressful BF I've ever done!

Apart from that I've pretty much fed anywhere they've wanted it. I have no shame and the DCs all fed fairly well (so it looked like cuddling rather than anything else)

While steering a narrowboat. I'd read that it was what the narrowboat women used to do so I wanted to see how easy it was.
Answer: not that hard.

I was feeding halfway up a fell in the Lake District once when a group of teenagers doing DofE trooped past. Some of them did a double take, then walked back past for another look. Anyone would think they weren't expecting it!

I once was feeding the middle of a woods (regular thing) when a group of scouts/ cubs came past! Their faces were very amusing!
Also in a cafe once went to feed ds and slight issue with over supply, ds came off and I squirted a man in the back who was sitting 5ft away!!

Back of a police car: We were first on the scene at a nasty car accident and weren't allowed to leave until the police had taken statements. DD2 was hungry and we were waiting in the police 4x4.

My mum bf me in the back of a mini going past Buckingham Palace, and also down Oxford Street! Of course we are talking nearly 40 years ago so before car seats etc.
