Feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing.

Just found out i'm pregnant and DD 19 months is still a complete milk monster day and night. She copes fine if I'm at work, but then I get jumped on, and days off and weekends she feeds every 3-4 hours....

So - will she cope if my supply drops? Will I cope with it hurting? Will she cope if I have to wean because of aversion?

Please come and reassure me :)

Congratulations :)

Your supply might be fine, you might not feel any pain and you might not have to wean- or all of those might happen. There's no telling really, you kind of have to play it by ear.

My DD1 was the same age (and also a total milk monster) when I got pregnant with DD2 and fed throughout with only a bit of mild soreness and aversion towards the end.

If you can get hold of a copy of Adventures in Tandem Nursing or borrow it from an LLL group then it's well worth a read.

Thank you :)

Can't believe how nauseous I'm feeling already and DP is putting it down to her night feeding/tiredness - I'm sure with DD I didn;t feel this rough until about 7 weeks in!

I have to say it did hurt when I was pregnant, obviously not too badly as I carried on feeding DS until DD was 18m.
Your DD is at the age that you can wean if you need to, so I'd just take it as it comes.

Hard to say whether it's down to the BF or not, every pregnancy is different. I puked for 9 months the first time around but hardly at all with DD2. Hope the sickness doesn't last!

Weeellllll I know I could wean - but I'm not sure DD would - she's the determined little streak of stubborn willfullness sort Grin

How do people get toddlers to sleep with breastfeeding though! Grin

Thank you :)

DS was a milk monster. But he was about 19m when i got pregnant. Fairly soon I'd be doing the loooong feed to sleep and inevitably I needed a wee. I told him, expecting tantrums, but being the lovely little boy he is he let me. When I came back he was fast asleep - that never happened before :)

I can be your buddy rainbow. 5 weeks gone here with a 20mo milk monster. We have just completed our first week of night weaning, as even if I carry on feeding him I will definitely need to not feed him every bloody two hours. It has been surprisingly painless and he has already definitely got the message "no boobie at night night".

Oooh Fredkiller - you're my hero! I've been meaning to night wean for ages (I hear you with the every 2 hours) Grin

I'm 35 weeks and dd3 is 2.5, she's pretty much only feeding at sleep times and if she hurts herself. I can stop her if I need to (toilet/BH/hurting) and she often self settles.

I found it painful initially and my supply dropped ( dd3 was complaining of milk wrong which is how I found out!) and when I changed to colostrum she got a bit annoyed!

Haha, I am no hero believe me. I'm a total wimp and cannot stand to hear DS cry for even a second. But I remember what the first trimester was like last time and I just cried at the thought of being up all night nursing.

Anyway, I tried the Jay Gordon method and had very little hope it would work. He cried (but not too hysterically) for about 40 minutes the first night. It was hard but you're allowed to cuddle, talk and soothe so I got through it. And after he had been crying for 15 minutes or so, I kind of thought I had to see it through, or I would have put him through that for nothing. The next 2/3 nights he cried for probably about 10 minutes.

And now he just rolls over, snuggles his bum into me (he loves being spooned) and goes back to sleep. I was Shock, believe me. It hasn't stopped him waking up yet but it has only been a week and he has come so far already, so I'm hopeful.

The next stage in my grand plan, once he is used to this, is to substitute my warm body for daddy's. then I can get some proper kip before dc2 arrives!

Interestingly, he asks for boob less now during the day as well, even though I haven't started weaning in the day at all.

I agree that the book recommended above is worth a read. It's very good and, most importantly, honest about tandem nursing. I don't think it's for me, all in all, I found feeding one newborn hard enough. But I have 8 months to wean very slowly and gently!

It's just so different for everyone.

I had no pain at all in the first trimester but then the second trimester hit and it was like a 1000 needles being stabbed into me.

DD got used to no supply, to the point where she would fall asleep after a few sucks. At that point I thought I'd try not feeding her when she woke but was happy to if she needed it. A week later she was weaned and when I went to feed her she wouldn't latch. She was only 14 months so I think had a short memory.
