Infant feeding

Am I feeding my little girl enough?

Hi all,

Need a bit of advice with feeding... I'd ask a midwife or HV but I've never really got a straight answer with any question I've asked, i've always had to make a final decision myself, plus mums know better :)
My little girl is 9 weeks old and for the past 2 weeks she's been sleeping through the night. Its great! can finally get some decent sleep. However, I'm a bit worried about how much or little she's feeding. She had a cold and cough over xmas and she lost her appetite but was still taking milk, albeit very slowly and broken up from her usual routine.
The problem is, I dont know if I'm feeding her enough. She wakes at 7-8 and feeds every 4 hours until she goes to bed at around 8.30/9pm so she's only feeding 4 times a day, taking 6oz each time. Shes not waking and crying for any more, she sleeps really well and wakes up happy and calmly takes her first morning feed.
Thanks in advance xx

How much does she weigh?

Weight x 150ml/200ml = ?
Divide ? By number of feeds per day = qty to feed at each feed. If 24oz does it, she's having plenty of wet and dirty nappies (any doubts then she's not) and is steadily gaining weight then I'd say enjoy it.
Do the math, get her weighed regularly and keep an eye on the nappies.
Also is she generally becoming more alert, smiling a bit and awake for longer? If not I'd check in with the HV team. My DD is the same age and had lots of feeding problems in the first few weeks so expressed most of her feeds until she was strong enough to bf well. 150/200 was the guide from the paediatrician - quite a big gap and she is feeding at the higher end of that and staying on 25 percentile at the moment.

Last time I had her weighed, about 2 weeks ago, she was 11lb and on the 50th centile then she got poorly. Not weighed her since so I think ill go tomorrow and see how she's doing.

I wouldn't get too wound up about the maths. However I wouldn't be happy with only 4 feeds a day at that age, particularly if she' s been poorly. I am normally a real feeding on demand advocate but if it was me I would try and give her some milk before bed. They often do appear to ' sleep through' if they are under the weather I think.

As well as getting her weighed talk to the HV and see what she says.

The maths are misleading where they put on weight normally, some need much more than others for no apparent reason.

Thanks ladies, I took her to be weighed and she's not dropped much from her usual track, the HV wasn't concerned when I mentioned her losing appetite. She's starting to take more bottles now Smile
