BF, dropped centiles, should I be concerned?

DS is 12 wks old. He was 99.6th centile at birth and is now just above the 50th centile having slowly coasted down to it since dropping off his original centile at 2 weeks old. He has one bottle of formula for his night feed but is otherwise breast fed. He feeds about every 2 hours during the day. He spits up a lot, sometimes proper vomiting, sometimes posseting. He's also much more windy than his sister. Poos several times a day. He seems happy and sleeps well (just wakes once usually between 7pm and 6am). HV has referred him to the GP. Should I be concerned?

That sounds like quite a few centiles to drop. I think your HV has done the right thing referring you in case there is a problem.
However its is likely he was just born a bit too big, and is catching down to where he should be. Was he late? Were you induced with a drip?

Assuming he is alert, hydrated, and filling nappies, I think its just a precaution - and a good one, but a worrying one for you temporally.

He was a week early! Not induced. I think and hope you're right - HV mentioned food sensitivities but the babies I know with these were screaming for hours on end whereas he is generally contented except when something's wrong.

Mine were both about 75th centile at birth. DD1 dropped down to 25th and DD2 down to the 9th. They are both normal weight for their heights at 5 and 2.8 (I remember DD2 was on 50th for weight and height at her 2 year check). I do recall the angst that the HV caused with those sodding red book charts and in my opinion, as long as the baby is content, alert, feeding, doing wet and dirty nappies, they are more than likely just fine. I think they were big at birth because my husband is very tall and I am short, and they just went down to what they were supposed to be.

ie he hasn't lost weight after recovering birth weight.

He has gradually dropped through two-three centile spaces as he continues to gain....can be perfectly normal catch down in a healthy baby but maybe your HV is just making sure. Nothing else in your post indicates any cause for concern, and chances are everyone can relax when the GP has had a look at him :)

Thanks everyone for the reassurance, much appreciated. Yes he is gaining weight - just slowly!
