Hydrogel Pads for Cracked Nipples?

Has anyone tried them? Do they work? I have one seriously cracked nipple and saw these pads in the supermarket today. At this point I am willing to try anything to get it healed up quicker. Just wondered if anyone has used them and if they are better than using lanisol cream.

I haven't tried these pads but I had really bad nipples and found that using reusable pads impregnated with lanolin helped straightaway, as did putting Lansinoh cream on my nipples and on the area of the disposable breast pads where my nipples would be.

Go to the chemist and ask for Jelonet, its designed for burns but is BRILLIANT on cracked nipples. You can put Lansinoh on, then the jelonet gauze and it stops your bra/t-shirt sticking to your nipples so as they heal they don't keep having the healing top layer of skin/scab repeatedly ripped off. 'Tis wonderful stuff!

I used Lansinoh and it was great, doesnt affect the baby when he latches on either

Thanks for your replies, I have been trying the Tommee Tippee hydrogel pads and I have to say they are fantastic. My sore/cracked nipple which quite frankly looked as if it had been chewed by a rabied dog, is almost completely healed after 2 days of wearing them. I had spent over a week using lanisoh with not much improvement. Would recommend them to anyone with nipple problems. Smile

Hi
Sorry to resurrect this post but wonder if anyone has any further feedback on hydrogel cooling pads for sore greats/ nipples

Dd now 5 days old, milk has been coming in big time since day 3. Engorgement peaked yesterday and meant the latch went a bit ...tits up... As poor little dd tried to latch and was bounced off.

Bleeding nipple today, have been applying and drying breastmilk as usual after each feed, as well as now using lansinoh and a lansinoh impregnated breast pad for each side in bra.

Any feedback, advices, tips... Sympathy ???!
TIA

I'd go and get some Jelonet. My nips were cracked and bleeding in a terrible way when we fed through a tongue tie for 8 weeks,a dn Jelonet was the only thing that really helped me. No experience of the hydrogel thingies, but recommend a thousand times over the Jelonet.

Thanks lookout, and so pleased you found something to help. I'd never heard of jelonet before this post - is it 'officially' used for bf related issues or has it Ben discovered as a happy side affect? Do you have to wipe off b4 feeding?

It's not oficially for bf, no, but someone on here recommended it to me. As posted upthread, it's actually used for moist wound healing in burns victims, and it just happens to work brilliantly on cracked nips too. I used to cut a square big enough to fit over nip, pop a breast pad over that and then bra, and change it after each feed. Before a feed I would use the breast pad to gently wipe the excess of the nip, but there isn't really any as it kind of soaks in. All chemists should have it. I'd have posted you some, my dh bought a whole box full, but I've been giving it away to all and sundry so don't have any left I'm afraid. Good luck!
