I have just read this, a lot of hype but enjoyed , disappointed with the ending. I am invariably disappointed with these, maybe should write one myself.

What do you think

Loved it, love the style of writing, went on t read her other two books, they were good, equally quirky, but I liked this the best.

Seems this book is really interesting, I would love to know why it was entitled Gone Girl. Anyone have read this book? Is the ending can really bring disappointment? I would love to know if it's worth reading and worth my time.

I hated the ending with a vengeance..in fact I disliked the book completely, but have enjoyed other books by the author, for example, Sharp Objects. In this one it wasn't the writing, it was the unlikeable characters that did for me.

I'm with ummlilia. Didn't enjoy 'Gone Girl' as much as the other two novels. I found 'Dark Places' utterly gripping - couldn't put the book don't much to my DH's dismay.

I started off loving it then hated it. Good to know some of the author's other books are ok though.

(If you're going to read the book, or are reading it ... my post might put a dampner on it, just a warning!)

Thought the book and the whole idea was great. Was gripped all the way through ... felt utterly cheated at the end. I always wonder what the point is, getting invested in characters for an ending like this :/ Has put me off reading another like it ... but I hear they are better?

I enjoyed the start but soon guessed who dunnit so lost interest. I did think while reading that it would be ideal for TV and I saw somewhere recently that a movie is being made.

This is still in my 'to-be-read' pile. Keen to read it and add to the discussion.

Really didn't enjoy it in fact when I read a review of a newer blood and it says "for fans of Gone Girl" etc I stop looking at the book they are trying to promote and buy something else.

I was disappointed with the end also. I read somewhere the film version has a different ending.

I was pretty disappointed with the whole book, the ending was on a par with every unbelievable twist to the story. Nothing made sense, everything seemed contrived just to add a twist to the story.

I've read all three of her books, I liked Gone Girl a lot. The ending made me angry, but I still liked the book. I actually really liked the way it was written from different POVs. I'm excited for the movie.

I quite enjoyed the first half, I was intrigued... I also liked how it made you feel like Nick was 'the good guy' and Amy was awful one minute and then it switched a little (at least, it did for me!). It fell flat in the second half and I was left feeling a bit meh.

I loved the first two thirds to three quarters of it. And then I felt that it turned completely farcical. I don't want to see it in the cinema, having read the book. I would read one of her other books though.

I thought it was very predictable - had heard there was a twist, guessed it at the start but didn't believe that could be what all the hype was, so waited on another which never came . . .

Maybe the film will be better but it was as if it was written to be a film from the start IYKWIM, you just know what they'll linger on.

Absolutely agree with PP who says that other book covers saying that theirs is for fans of GG is a real indicator to me that I'll hate them!

Does anyone else think this book is a bit harsh vile about women?
I'm reading it and getting a little sick of the jokes about punching someone in the vagina, and rants about how insecure and bitchy women are, making their poor laid back husbands suffer.

I may be overreacting actually, but it seems quite nasty.
