Be aware that if you're reading it this could a spoiler, so back away now, until you finish it!

So i thought it was ok, but there was some sentences i didn't quite get. Mostly, i didnt' quite get how he got shot. How could he be stood watching himself get shot with Clare's Dad and brother, i thought that the Henry who was stood watching was already the time travelling Henry?! Do you see what i mean?

Someone please explain as i'm not twigging it!

I think that he didn't actually see himself get shot but saw the before and after - ie he saw blood and the horrified reactions, I think, but by then he had already gone back to his real future to die. But it's been some time since I read it.

the one that got shot is a much later version, without his feet. the one that is standing around is much younger, with his feet still intact, and, i dont think he actually sees the shooting. i think it was an accident

So that means that both Henry's had time travelled to that spot? - which is unusual, as normally one Henry was living real time. Is that right? That's what i'm struggling with. Also, the dad and son sort of recognised him when he went to dinner, so does that mean they saw who they shot but saw him disappear?

Can you tell this bit has utterly confused me!

they rocognised the guy they had a chat with. not the one they shot.
he often went to the same place at the same time. most noticeably his moms accident. his own time is still a straight line, just not alligned to everyone elses.

Thanks ladysybil. But... if they were chatting to the straight line Henry - i don't get why he was in the field at that time, because he didn't know Clare then. So what was he doing there?

Sometimes Henry time travelled to the same spot from different time periods. Like when he and Clare got married there was two Henrys. But most notably was at the start of the time travelling when as a young boy he time travelled to the museum and met his older self who was also time travelling and they read that bird book together.

When he appeared in the field and got shot obviously that was old Henry, the other Henry was a younger version. He knew something bad had happened and was going to happen that is why on that date Clare was not expecting him.
He had a chat with his soon to be in-laws, that is why they recognised him when they met him later.

Maybe you should read it again and see if it slots into place the second time.

Makes me cry that book, its the ending when she is waiting for him as an old woman.
