how do i get my files from solicitor

hi,i have just accepted a compensation claim but would like to see the correspondence for myself as i have a solicitor acting for me the third party wo,nt tell me any info under the data protection act..the cheque will go direct to my solicitor who deposits it in his account then sends me my amount after his fee is deducted..i just want to know if what he told me is the same amount i,m being told it is
