How long can it take to get pregnant after coming off birth control

Hi,

When I was 16 I went on the depo injection to prevent me from becoming pregnant, but after 8 years of being on this, I went onto the pill to get regular periods as the depo stopped this. I was on the pill for 6 years (am now 30yrs of age) and it has been a month since I've come off the pill.

I know it can take time for my body to adjust and go back to normal before being able to conceive. Is there anyone who has been in my similar situation of using both the depo and then pill, or who had been using birth control for 14years? If so, how long did it take your body to get back to normal?

It can take upto a year, sometimes longer so be patient. Usually if it's longer than a year they say go for a chat with your gp but it really does vary from person to person. Some get pregnant straight away. Good luck x

Agree with above. It can be straight away but can be a lot longer. You will not ovulate until the pill is out of your system and then as with anybody it can take varying lengths of time to conceive.

I was on the pill for 10 years. I didn't have a period for 6 months after coming off and believe that I conceived the first time I ovulated. The problem with being on the pill is that it can hide underlying problems or irregular periods so see your Dr if you haven't conceived after a year.

Thank you both for your replies. I guess only time will tell... As the saying goes, good things come to those who wait. Hopefully I will be able to conceive within a year :-) Thank you for your advice x

Had you spotted that MN has a Conception forum?

You might find it helpful to have a browse there (and perhaps ask MNHQ if they'll move your thread into it, as that's where expert posters hang out and you might get more replies).

Thanks for the useful info, I'm new to this site so was not aware there was a conception forum. Thanks for letting me know. But luck has it... I started my first normal period today, so only 5 weeks from coming off the pill. :-) So I guess it does not matter how long you've been on birth control for and is dependent on individuals. I'll have to browse mumsnet site more to see other useful forums. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :-)
