Tips on building your initial follower base

Hello mums,

I'm a fellow blogger mum from Canada. I write about my two boys, 3 Year Old and 3 Month Old and occasionally about my husband, 36 Year Old. I've started blogging after having my second child and as many new bloggers I am trying to increase my following. Some useful tips I can offer other beginners: try to comment on like-minded blogs, post questions on parenting forums that allow using a link to your blog as part of your signature, join blog hops. I've been doing all of those but I wonder if there is anything else that experienced bloggers on mumsnet could suggest.

Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi Katia

Well done on all you've achieved so far - and thanks for sharing those tips. I'd suggest you join Twitter, if you haven't already, and build up a following there of likely readers and join in the general chat and banter. Then tweet occasional links to posts on your blog (it's not considered bad etiquette to tweet to more than just the most recent post, by the way). Retweet other posts and comments that you find on there that you enjoy, and others will retweet yours too, in time, especially if they find posts that really strike a chord with them.

Good luck and have fun!

Best wishes, Debbie (I'm on Twitter as @DebbieYoungBN, by the way, and my blog is //www.youngbyname.me

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your comment and suggestion. I am on Twitter but I am not sure (in fact I'm sure I'm not) using its maximum. I'd like to pick your brain, if you don't mind, on a couple of questions.

I am not sure how to find like minded people on Twitter, since they are only identified by their names/nick names. I've added a couple of users that have the words 'blog' and 'mom' in their names but not enough. Any suggestions?

Also can you explain "tweet to more than just the most recent post" I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean that once I find these like minded people I should look over their page for older tweets?

Thank you again, Debbie, and have a great Friday!

Katia
