Does anyone use 'Delicious' - apparently "the world's leading social bookmarking service"

I'd never heard of Delicious until it came up in the context of an interview I am gong to tomorrow (yes, I know, a little last minute...) Does anyone use it? Is it helpful or not? Is it like Pinterest but without pictures? Any pearls anyone would be prepared to offer would be most welcome.

I used to. Between 2006 and 2008 it was really busy, but it changed (I think it changed hands) and doesn't seem to be as popular any more.

What is like? Umm ... yes, kind of Pinterest without picture. You shared links, and could add a description and tags, and compile links into collections based on subjects. There was also as social networking side that let you add friends.

Ah thanks for that - I had honestly never come across it before. I probably didn't do any social networking stuff before 2009 ish so it's no wonder I'd never come across it if it tailed off after that.

No, but I'd been wondering what it was! Presumably now I don't need to know about it any more as it sounds like a thing of the past, like Friends Reunited. Thanks for enlightening me!

RecipeJunkie No problem - hope your interview goes well :)

YoungDebbie I think like FR it's been superseded by Facebook and Twitter. I just logged into my account; only one friend is still using the site, and she's only shared 4 links this year.

I didn't get the job in the end - someone who had actual experience got it - how dare they! but I managed to get myself to the final 2 for a foodie PR role when I have no proper PR experience, so I'm not too crushed (sob). For the final word on Delicious (from me, anyway) one of the interview panel runs a media agency and it was his firm's website that I'd read about Delicious. I asked him about it and he said he didn't know either!!! So no, YoungDebbie definitely not something to worry about!

I too used it . Delicious is one of the best social bookmarking site. We can share every thing in it, Delicious is great about social bookmarking is that you can tag links 'for' another person if you believe they will find the link of interest.

Huh. Last I heard Delicious was dying the death.

That could have changed though.

:-) yes, I haven't found anyone who used it. Sorry, garymoore321 but I think I will probably give it a miss!

Really...oh ok! Anybody can tell exact difference between Social networking sites and Social bookmarking sites?????

I would assume social bookmarking is for sharing website and social networking are for networking.

It's all in the name, really, isn't it? Grin
