How to blog - a question from a complete newbie

Hi ladies, I would like to start writing a blog but not sure how to go about it? I have a topic in mind but not sure what the correct words would be to use lol. Any advice on how I can start instead of just typing away and not realising that there is no start, middle or end, it is just mixed up!! :-) Thank you!

That's the way you blog. Pick a topic. Pick a blogging tool (WordPress is best, IMHO) and start writing.

This might help a bit.

Just start, you can always delete or change things later.

Do you mean you can't think of the right words to use for your blog name? Or you can't think of the right words for your posts?

It might be worth spending a little bit of time thinking about what topic your blog will be on, and therefore what to call it. But to be honest, there is also much to be said for just choosing a blogging platform (I also use Wordpress, but people speak highly of others) and tapping away and seeing what comes out!

I think there is a beginners' guide somewhere here on Mumsnet, too. And most of the blogging sites will have a 'how to get started' section. As MmeLindor says, you can always change stuff later on. A bit of trial and error won't hurt.

Good luck!

Hi and welcome!

Everybody's writing style is different. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way as such, but there are guides out there that will give some tips about size of blog, topics etc.

The variety of styles, lengths, subject matter, design and frequency etc. means that all blogs differ. But that's all part of the fun!

If you're worried about grammar and spelling etc. then there is always the good old spell check and some useful online guides. Again, there are no rules as such. I've seen blogs in text speak and I've seen blogs with massive sentences and paragraphs.

I was taught to write in a particular way when I was a journalist. But now that I blog, my style has changed, although I still stick to some basics.

It's also helpful to look at other blogs and to see what inspires you. Which blogs you like and which ones you're not so keen on.

Just start writing, look at what you've got and then edit if need be. Good luck!
