Baby was due on 11 Nov and on 4/11 went for a check and was told I was 2cm but delivery could be anything up to 2 weeks.
Life as normal on 5/11 took dd to school , did shopping then after lunch I was loosing small cupfuls of liquid however on going to the loo as had massive urge to pee I could start / stop urine - I know not advised but wanted to see. I had some panic posts on mumsnet asking advice as my doc was not answering his phone - should I go in should I stay at home etc. My mother was at gatwick wating to come to look after dd for me and she had a panic phone call - which prompted her in going to British Airways and buying a ticket to arrive 2 hrs earlier.
We took dd to her aunt and then headed to the hospital - me convinced I was being OTT and they would send me home.DH was with me and I was put on a monitor for an hr as baby was not being active enough. I had minor cramps but nothing registered on the paper ! I then had to wait for about 15 mins until the doc came to do an internal and during that time I had 2 strong contractions but again as the monitor showed nothing I thought it was bh.
At 6.30 pm doc said he was admitting me and they would see what would happen that night.
Dh went to the emergency dept to have me registered for admission and I filled in paperwork with the MW. During that time I started to get contractions and she suggested I change into nightdress / whatever.
DH strolled back in about 10 mins later to be told I was not going up to the ward but staying in the pre delivery area to be monitored. ( face was a picture)
Had another check and was 6cm and then after another 10 mins on the monitor things started to get a bit serious. Dh asked if I could have an epidural (!!!!!!) MW said she is having this baby in the next 15 mins A few mins later I wanted to push - walked into the delivery suite tried a few different positions but decided that traditional was what I wanted and off we went. A few pushes later and Emily arrived so exactly 38 mins from the doctors check !! She decided to come out a bit superman style meaning I had to have a couple of stitches which are healing right now ( ouch)
Here you are admitted for at least 3 days however on day 2 after birth the decided that my uterus was not returning to size and that I might actually have some retained placenta so I was taken down for a clean out ( see having a quick birth means that I had to suffer more later !!!!)- I was put on Oxytocin (sp) - delightful but happy to say that got better after that. Emily latches on well and milk is slowly coming in - I did not get a let down or big swelling boobs with dd1 so will see what happens with dd2.
Happy to be home and family life continues !
P.s Mum landed at 6.30 pm and made it back home for dd1 bedtime grin
