I'm here!

Tried to type birth story twice last night but got side tracked!

Anyway. Thursday was to be ds2'2 first day at nursery and, sod's law, ds3 decided to put in his appearance!

Got up at 6am and and had a 'show' (hate that phraase!) and had been told that at the very first sign of labour i needed to be assessed due to speedy labours and high bp and the fact that the nearest CLU was abot 30 mins away.

Rang my mam who got over quick even though I wasn;t really experienicing any pains. Delivery unit said to come down to have bp done.

Got there abot 7:30 ish and had mild contractions in car but nothing at all - I reckon with ds2, all the minor build up happened as I slept whereas this was happpening during the day.

BP was 150/100 so stuck on bp monitor for an hour and a half and bp was consistently in high 90s/low 100s.

Faffed about getting bored as nothing much happening - I nearly popped round the corner to take ds2 to nursery but wasn;t allowed hmm.

Back on monitor - bp down a little and showing mild contraction - which I could barely feel. Bp settled in high 80s/low 90s.

Midwife and student midwife examined me and I was 1-2cm dilated - told them to have a good rummage to try to get things going.

They decided I needed to be reviewed as I was at the midwife led unit and if bp stayed high but I wasn;t in labour proper they may send me on to be induced.

Sent round to pregnancy assessment unit where they arsed about and I satrted having afew more contractions but nothing big at all. Doctor examined me - 2cm-3cm dilated and bp still hgh so they sent us in the car to the consultant led unit.

Got there - they could not understand why we had been sent as I was clearly in labour so the bp didnt matter and it was only....

got to go
boys back/....
part 2 later

Congratulations! I can't wait to hear the second half. Come on woman, you've only got 2 little boys to look after, visitors to juggle, newborn to deal with, given birth 3 days ago. Get your priorities straight woman, MN needs to hear the story! wink

Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By popsycal on Mon 15-Sep-08 17:39:30
lol sorry!!!

Ok whre was i!!!
<scrolls up thread...>

...it was only a matter of time before I gave birth. I think the rationale to send me on was in case labour did not get established and bp stayed high and I needed inducing.

Anyway.
BP was fine on arrival (mid 80s). Midwife examined me and I was 3cm. Suggested I had a bath. got in bath and had a few contractions - nothing major - shouted to dh, that I thought it might be another and he would grunt while reading the paper hmm.

Got bored of the bath. Midwife suggested I consider using gas and air having hated it with ds1. This was about 4pm

Then I felt a pop and waters went and I thought I would just have a try of gas and air. It made me soooo giggly. Mid wife had gone out by this point.

Then contractions strarted coming really strongly and quickly.

DH didn't realise why I was puffing on the gas and air. One comedy moment was during perhaps the third strong contraction I thought to myself that no one realises how quick this is going and I wanted to explain to DH that the baby was coming really really quick and he should get the midwife and I said:
'Richard Branson. No not him. Top Gear. Jeremy Clarkson. 0-60 in 3 seconds. The baby is coming NOW!!!!'
Mid wife dashed along and put me on the bed and examined me.

Had a major huge contraction - bizarre experience - flashing lights, weird tunnel sensation. thought that I was hallucinating. Then the student doctor said 'My god - his head is out already!'. Then I had another one, grunted a few times, felt a splutter and Joseph Daniel was there at 4:36pm

Ta da!
Contact the poster Contact mumsnet about this post By popsycal on Mon 15-Sep-08 17:42:50
oh yes - so all of the real action lasted about 30 minutes!

He is gorgeous but a bit jaundiced - so having had a dreadful experience with ds1 and jaundice, I am a little twitchy.

He is pretty chilled but does not like to sleep in his moses basket (de ja vue!). Not getting a lot of sleep at all but I have been in training for that for 3 and a half years.

DS1 is fab with him and calls him 'Little Joe'. DS22 is generallt great but has his moments of hating him and being a bit jealous - calls him 'Jojo'.

But to me he looks like a teddy bear and I have to stop calling him Little Ted blush

Awww I love the names to big ones have given him.

Birth sounds great popsy.

Re the moses basket, one of mine hated from the get go so he went straight into the cot which he didn't mind at all....

saying that sleep advice for little ones is prob the last thing you need, I suspect you've been there, done that on every possible idea anyone has gotgrinwink

I hope Little Jo is a good sleeper when he gets a bit bigger.

xx

I'm glad it was quick - but not so swift that you had to give birth in the car or loading the washing machine or at the supermarket. Wow, can you imagine having to put 'Lidl' as the place of birth on the certificate?! [shamed-face emoticon]

Hope you get some sleep. xx
