Bereavement

Our neighbour has died, the kids have made cards but I'm not sure they are appropriate....

we were all very fond of her - she was only just in her 50s and got cancer around 6 weeks ago but it spread v quickly (she had had cancer before, years ago, but thought it was in remission). Her daughter lives next door with her (in her early 20s). We were out all day today but heard the news when we came back.

The children both made cards - one says 'Dear X (daughter) - I will miss Y (the mother) too' and the other one wrote 'Dear X (daughter) - I am sad your mummy has died'.

I think I should probably hold off giving them to her (think they are a bit emotive - would prob have me in tears if I got something like that) but am now wondering if I should let them give the cards to her, say tomorrow, and let her know that we are here if she needs us (she has other family around). What do you think?

I think her daughter will be touched by your children's thoughtfulness. They may make her cry, but that won't be a bad thing.

she was a really lovely woman. Always remembered the kids birthdays and used to give them chocolate lollies over the fence when she thought I wasn't looking!

I think I'd give her the cards now too - I'm sure she'd be very touched that they'd made them.

give her the cards.

yes she will probably find them upsetting but i doubt there is much that wont cause her to cry for the next few weeks.

it will show her how much her mother meant to her community not just to her family.

Oh definitely give her the cards - they are very heartfelt. It is so touching to receive cards from children and I think she will really appreciate them.

My children made a card for the chemist when her husband died and she loved it.
