Hello can anyone help please - I had some bleeding today (mainly brown) and am approx 15 weeks + 4 days pregnant. I went to A&E and got checked and they said things seemed ok, could find a heartbeart, but am still feeling anxious because alreayd suffered one miscarriage. Has anyone had anything similar? Please reassure me if you can! Thanks.

I'm not an expert but I was told by a mw that brown blood is old and from you, so it's usually nothing to worry about. If it's bright red, fresh blood then that could be to do with the baby/placenta and is more concerning.

HTH put your mind at rest a little bit, are you registered with the midwives yet? If it's till happening tomorrow I'd try giving them a ring for a bit more reassurance.

If it helps, a friend of mine miscarried at 16 weeks last year, after all sorts of problems (don't panic, it's a positive story!). She got pregnant again in April, had a huge bleed at 12 weeks, was rushed into hospital by ambulance, but baby was fine. She carried on bleeding heavily, was scanned every week, baby was growing ok, the bleeding finally stopped at 18 weeks and everything is now absolutely normal. I think she is a really positive example of how bleeding in pregnancy isn't always a sign of something bad happening.

I've always heard that brown bleeding is just old blood that has broken through. It's really good that you went in and got checked though. I know there have been many other MNers who have had bleeding and still carried to term just fine.

Sorry to hear this gal30.I had bleeding with all of my pregnancies & it is very, very common.I think the statistics I read were that more people bleed than not.

Did they offer a scan?It could be from cervical erosion or from the placenta moving..We never did find out why I bled but my dd's were both fine.Brown blood is old blood, but I would ask for a scan to ease your mind-the stress is horrible when you don't know what is happening.

Hope your pregnancy continues stress free from now on.

I had bleeding with both of mine, quite a lot of it with the 2nd one, but they were both fine. The main thing the drs asked me was if there was any pain and as there was none they said everything would be ok and that bleeding was quite common.
Hope this reassures you - good luck.

Hi Gal30, I had bleeding at about the same stage with you when pregnant with dd2. I was sent to the hospital and all was fine with the baby. They discoved though that I had Group B Strep. and said that that the bleeding could be related to that. I was given anti-biotics and all was fine. I had to have anti-biotics again whilst in labour to ensure that the baby didn't get it. Maybe its worth asking to be tested with Group B Strep?
