Bereavement

How can I help my friend

My friend has been at mine this evening drinking pretty heavily and talking to me about her first son who died of cot death 15 years ago. She has mentioned him before but not as much as she did tonight. Ive agreed to help her find out where she can get bereavement support and even visit his grave with her (something she cant face). Her dh has never discussed his death with her and she knows its not a possibility to talk about it now with him. She feels she's going mad sometimes and she's also scared that the older her other children are getting the more she needs to remember her first.

Hi there .You are a good friend. Has yourfirend tried SANDS - stilbirth and neonatal death support. they have an internet page and I am told local contacts who you can speak to on the phone or in person. I have heard of a friend of a friend who was helped enormously by them and became a supporter herself.

So sorry to hear about your friend jampots...as PL said you are a good friend and she has opened up to you about something so personal to her that she obviously trusts you...she is still grieving for her lost baby and just talking to you about this probably helps her ...just keep supporting her and giving her time to talk and feel for her lost baby... you are already helping her just by listening and allowing her to talk about her loss...tell her about SANDS and just keep being the lovely supportive friend you already are...goodluckxxx

She could also try compassionate friends, my SIL has had alot of support there. Its a website for bereaved parents. She would be able to chat to others who know what she is going through.
