Hi. I lost my baby on Monday and had a scan and bloods. They took more blood today and my pregnancy hormone has gone up. I have to go back to hospital tomorrow for another scan and to see the doctor.
Can someone explain to me what is happening?? I just can't understand it and I am SICK of going to hospital.
TIA XXX

Oh spook So very sorry for your loss. I went through a miscarriage last week so can very much empathise.

I really, really do not want to worry you or raise false hopes, and I am no expert, but AFAIK rising pregnancy hormone after an apparent miscarriage could mean that you actually haven't miscarried or in fact lost one of twins, or it could mean the pregnancy is ectopic. I really hope for you that the first is true and not the second. Take care. xxx

(hugs) I had a m/c in 2003 and am very sorry for both your losses.

Another possible explanation, spook, (besides still pregnant or ectopic) would be that you've not miscarried everything and there's something left that may need a D&C to get out. Another scan sounds like the best way to go.

Thanks LeahE. Just wish I could put it behind me now.

Spook,
So sorry you are going through this... My hormones kept dubling for a while even after docs were pretty sure the embryo was unviable. The uncertainty of all was really hard to handle.
The fact that the hormones keep doubling suggests that it wasn't a complete miscarriage. Thus body still have something in, that is signalling to keep hormone production up. It could be as FIT said, baby still ok, or one of a twin was miscarried. It can also be that bits of placenta were left behind.
They want to scan to see what is still in there. In the worse case scenario, they might want to a D&C.

FIT, so sorry for you too!

It'll take a while, probably. Don't push yourself. I think I cried every day for about six weeks, and it was months before I had a day I didn't think about it. There's no fixed schedule for when you need to have put it behind you.

If you do need a D&C, it's really not that bad - very quick and you only need to be under for about 20 minutes. Just wanted to mention that as it's being floated as a "worst case scenario". Oddly, I was quite glad to need a D&C. It seemed like a proper medical acknowledgement that there was something wrong. I would never have expected that reaction before I was in the situation.

so sorry spook ((((((hugs)))))

Not sure what you have seen on your scans, My last mc was a bit of a rollercoaster, I was told bubs had no heartbeat at 6+1 and had only grown 2 days in a week.My sac was collapsing so they told me it wouldnt be long, my hcg level went up though, first they thought ectopic, but once Id had another scan the pregnancy sac had grown from 6mm, to 10mm, they told me not to get my hopes up though as there was no chance for that one

I hope they figure it out sooner x x x

Hi everyone, Am just waiting to call the hospital any minute for blood results. Had another scan this morning and there is something abnormal about the lining of my womb. Some shadows that they aren't happy with??? They took my scan pics off to consultant. WTF?
Definately no pregnancy left but if hormone levels gone up again today they're v worried about ectopic. I have pain today too. Am v v tearful and hot.
FED UP
Will call hospital now

. Oh sppok - how hard this all must be for you. I can remember being in this position too. Mine was due to the fact that there were retained products - ie - bits of impanted placenta which had not come away. Had loads of scans and then a D+C which sorted everything out. My results kept doubling too hence all the scans.
