I hope this is in the right place.

Writing on behalf of my friend whose husband passed away. Their son is two and has just started asking where daddy is Hmm

Can you recommend any picture books I could give to her. ( not sure it's relevant but she's not a Christian so books about heaven may not be suitable). Thanks

No Matter What by Debbie Gilorie (sp) is lovely and quite simple. It's about the stars and how they shine on even though they died a long time ago.

Hi :)

Firstly, I have to say it's lovely that you want to help your friend like this. People don't always know if they are saying or doing the right things to help in these situations but I know from experience that a gesture like the one you want to make, really does make a huge difference :)

Anyway, to answer your question;

You can get loads of information about helping children deal with grief and bereavement on the Winston's Wish website.

They are a wonderful charity specifically set up to help bereaved children and this page has a reading list you can download that includes suggested books for children under five.

Your friend might also find it helpful to visit the website for advice and support in general. They have all sorts of wonderful free support services for people in her situation, my daughter was 3 when my husband died and they really helped us both.

This link will take you directly to the section with advice about supporting a child when someone has died but I think your friend would find the entire website incredibly helpful :)

Hope that helps,

Take care,

g.x
