Bereavement

The end for my friend

So, almost a year to the day, following some back pain, my friend has died from cancer. He was 34, leaves behind a wife and 1 year old baby. My heart is about to explode.
How is this fair? Why him?
How can I support her?

I'm so sorry to hear this. And it isn't fair.

Can you give up time to help her with the baby? I'm sure anything you can do will be appreciated. Talking about your friend perhaps most of all. It seems pretty common that a lot of people shy away from talking about the loved one who has died, yet that is exactly what brings comfort to many of those left behind.

I am so very sorry for your loss :(

Its not fair, it never is when someone so young dies.

All you can do is be there for his wife, as snazzy says don't be afraid to talk about your friend. You can do practical things like offer to babysit or cook if she wants some help, if she doesn't just make sure she knows you are on the end of a phone day or night.

Be gentle on yourself too and take some time out to grieve.
