Hi,
My very very best friend has had an awful week, her beloved Jack Russell has been missing since last Monday, it looks likely that she has gone into a badger set and is either stuck or has been killed by a badger. My friend has never married or had children, she is the biggest animal lover I have ever known, and this sweet dog meant more to her than I can say. My three are very upset, they played with her last summer. It is now day 7, so its likely that she is dead somewhere. I know its only a dog, but to her its her child, her life. I am desperately trying to think of a nice poem or quote to send to her, many years ago after my son died I remember being moved by a quote on a headstone for someones dog in Abbotsbury in Dorset. Can anyone help, or think of something?

Hi,
For some reason I can`t click on the links. Sadly no news of Potato, its a week today. Poor Nicky is just beside herself, such a sweet little dog, we will all miss her terribly.

There is a good Rupert Brooke poem called "the Little Dog's Day", I can't do links but am sure it is on the internet...

Faithful

With eye upraised his master?s look to scan,
The joy, the solace, and
the aid of man:
The rich man?s guardian and the poor man?s friend,
The only creature faithful to the end.

--George Crabbe.

Byron's Epitaph to a Dog has some nice lines too.

Thanks everyone,
Some lovely poems. I found this short very sweet one
"Mans best friend" you hear them say
An understatement, that has to be
I just hope I was there for her
As much as she was there for me

another one though not neccessarily for a dog

Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my souls sweet flight.
I am at peace, my souls at rest,
There is no need for tears
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.
There is no pain., I suffer not
The fear now all is gone
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath,
Remember not the strife,
Please do not dwell upon my death
But celebrate my life

Such lovely words, make me think of my own loss.
