Bereavement

doctor appt friday for DS (sicky, off-balance, bad ears)

EdgarAleNPie · 23/02/2011 18:15

right - he's had an anti-biotic ear spray for two weeks. he has been particularly sick the past week so its doing bugger all

my plan for friday is to ask

-for heavy oral anti-bs to realy kick the infection (if it is bacterial, as if its in the inner ear an exterior spray won't touch it).
-for a referral to a paediatrician (which i can always cancel if he gets better before it coes through)

  • anti-emetics/ anti nausea pills? he's been keeping very little food down. quite thin.

how does that sound for a plan?

he already saw audiology, they said 'yes, there's fluid in his ear.' is there any point in seeing them again?

He's now been down with this since November. Gone from running and kicking a ball to staggering around the house and falling over. can't manage more than a few yards without support.

ok, any thoughts?

Has he had grommets? They will probably recommend he has them.

not yet. i just wondered how typical falling over and daily vomiting were ....he didn't have any hearing loss. though he definitely has fluid in his ears, andhis ears have been inflamed.

My children have never had this problem, but I know whenever I get sinusitis I always feel very off balance and sicky, docotors said that it is all connected the nose, ears etc and all to do with keeping you balanced, although I'm sure that the doctors already told you that, so not much help.

But if this has been going on since nov I'd agree it defintely needs a paeds referal now, poor lad, and ABs in the meantime to see if that helps.

i got paed referral - good. no anti-bs though.

he did the typical thing of being slightly better on the day we se the doctor! after a week of falling over.

Glad he's been referred, I hope they manage to sort it out once and for all, he must be really fed up.

And yes, why do children always get better when you have a doctors appointment booked for them Hmm , glad GP listened to you anyway.

i saw the 'noctor' who basically said this was odd and needed a referral.

personally its tempting to book a block of appts just to make him better by the force of Sods law!

hmm...

phoned up about appt on friday (1 week after) they said they had the referral but no appt yet.

DS has been rather more off-balance without being outwardly ill - he's falling over from seated. he's being sick in his mouth a few times a day (he's getting mostly liquidy food as that stays down better). He looks unfocussed.

neighbour reckons i should be getting more demanding - but what option is there? Take him to A&e on monday? another GP appt? - don't know what GP would recommend as already have spcialist referral....?

The symptoms sound like those my dad displayed when he had labyrinthitis earlier this year. Another gp appt might speed referral up a bit.

Oh good luck. The CT is amazing - they can see the tiniest details. Do you have someone to go with? Is he young enough to have to be sedated? Take some food for yourself as although the CT will be quick if he's sedated the whole process can take a while.

That's good, sounds like they are being thorough. I hope they manage to find out what it is and that he's on the mend very soon. Smile

Oh Edgar. I'm so, so sorry. It's good that they've picked it up. I can't imagine what you are going through. I trained as a childrens nurse so if there's anything you need then please ask.

I'm assuming it's a neuroblastoma? This is the most common types of tumours in children and they usually respond really well to treatment. Treatment varies so you're best off talking to the oncologist about this. Hospital stay wise, things that remind your son of home, like his favourite toy or blanket can help. The hospitals usually have parents accommodation so you can stay with him.

Sending you my love xx
