I'm secretly concerned for my friends baby who, at 10 weeks, hasn't yet smiled. Reasure me!

My dd would smile all the time from about 2 months onwards. (my mum used to say"She has got wind")

10 weeks is too late. Is your friend worried?

I've read that if a baby hasn't smiled by 3 months then it may be a cause for concern. Has your friend's baby not had a 6-8 week check, surely any problem would have been identified and followed up on?

Will ask about 6-8wk check, I don't want to alarm her though and have already said bluntly, 'blimey mine all smiled by 4 weeks!' How insensitive was that?! As for not noticing, she spends all day every day (and night) besottedly coohing and breast feeding, think she'd have spotted a smile...

According to Babycentre, you shouldn't really worry unless you get to 3 months without a smile. They all develop at their own pace after all..

They may not pick up on it at 6-8 week check - when my dd went for hers and we got to that question, the doctor said, 'Oh, we don't expect them to smile this early' and skipped over it.
I was miffed because my dd had, as it happened, smiled at 4 weeks.

(DS was later, though, in case it sounds like I'm showing off.)
