Tourettes or what?

I'm getting a bit concerned about dd (2). She seems to do a lot of teeth gritting and screeching noises, especially when she's tired. It's almost as if she can't help it and she just needs to let it out. I have heard that with tourettes syndrome tics are usually triggered by excitement, but it does seem to be over-tiredness with us. Does anyone else have any experience of this kind of thing? She doesn't have any facial tics, just this baring her teeth and strange noises from time to time.

I was researching this the other day, Tourette's can be really mild, is usually all recovered from by adulthood, but supposed to affect something like 5% of all children only many people don't realise. So not so bad maybe, you could just ask your GP for an opinion, no?

Do you have anyone else in your family with Tourettes, it is genetic? I have tourettes and it hasnt stopped me from being happy.

Tourettes is not usually as extreme as on TV and not many people with Tourettes have bad/ language or insult people.

Tourettes does get better with age or people get better at controlling it.

Usual onset for Tourettes is around 7, so she is a little young yet. However many children develop tics and it could just be that.

Thanks for your replys. I'm worrying about it a lot lately. My younger brother did have verbal tics when he was younger, and slightly physical. Doesn't seem to affect him much now though. (he's 16)
