My dd had a dum at night until she was 3, about 3 weeks before Easter we told her that the easter bunny would like her dum and would leave her a mini trampoline if she sent him her dummy. We talked about it every night and when the time came she popped it in an envelope and sent it to my mum. She asked for it the first night and we explained that she couldn't have it because we'd agreed that it was going to the easter bunny. She never asked for it again. It was really easy, but requires your child to be able to understand exactly what you mean. If that's the case, give it a go at christmas.

My DD1 gave up her dummy at 2.5. She also only had it at night, when we bought her a "big" bed, she was so excited about going into new bed that she forgot to ask for dummy so we hid it just incase but never asked for it again...maybe we just very lucky??

Similar idea really, my DTs were the same age as your ds, and only had them at night. We told them they were big girls now and didn't need dummies any more, built it up for a few days then I bought them new PJs and a special present each, they got to choose between the present and keeping their dummy, put the dummy in the bin themselves then went to bed wearing new PJs to make it special. The weird thing is that the DT who was never bothered about the dummy kicked up a fuss for a couple of nights, whilst the one who always woke in the night wanting it wasn't bothered at all!

DD gave hers up at about 2.8 - she left it out for the dummy fairy to deliver to a new baby girl who needed it. She was so excited, shetold absolutely everyone and that was that.

My dd (3) is giving her dummies to Santa in exchange for a Bob the Builder toy. She has a little bag for them, we will leave them out the night after boxing day (as we are staying at relatives over xmas & Santa won't have any room on the sliegh for them) and Santa will come & get them & leave the toy.
