How old was your lo when they sat unsupported?

DS is coming up 8 months, all the other babies I know are sitting unsupported now, and mine isn't. I know - shouldn't compare, but I'm worried. He can do it, but never tries, if I put him sitting down he wriggles so much he falls over, but he will sit on my lap unsupported. Trouble is he gets bored v easily playing on his back / tummy now. He has a bumbo but can climb out of it, same with inflatable ring. help!

My dd was very early about 4-5 months but ds didn't sit completley un-aided till he was 9 months neither did he crawl properly till 10 months he's now 11 months and doing it all even standing unaided for a few seconds. Incidently unlike my dd he didn't get any teeth till 9 months and now he has 9 coming through at once They all take a different amount of time to do stuff but do it in the end.

DS2 sat unaided at 7m, as did DS1, but DS2 wasn't totally stable until nearer 9m. He crawled before he sat, which pretty much sums him up! [knackered]

My DS1 didn't sit till he was nearly 8 months, was way too adventurous crawled at 6 months and just got bored sitting I think so didn't even try!

I think as long as he CAN do it, there isn't an issue, obviously he si showing motivation to move around if climbing out of bumbo etc that's what's most important at that stage.

My little boy is 8 months and still won't sit unsupported. I think he can do it but finds it so funny when he topples over that he just keeps doing it. Is much more interested in getting around the house commando style (won't actually crawl) cause that way he can get whatever he wants.

ds wa well into crawling before he could sit up (straight) unsupported. I was quite surprised at it being that way round. (he crawled at 7 months and IIRC was 8.5 months before he'd properly mastered sitting).

I am glad I peeked at this thread as DS1 could sit unsupported at 6m but couldn't even roll over till 7.5m, DS2 now 5m can roll over already but a complete flop at trying to sit up and I was starting to worry! My friends DD bum shuffled till 19m then suddenly pulled herself up and walked. They all do things at different times as I am finding out now with 2. DS2 very bored very quickly lying down, we borrowed one of those activity centres, like a baby walker with toys all round, but it doesnt' go anywhere, he loves it and is happy 'standing' in it for ages.

6 months for ds, but I know a lot of babies through my work that it's been nearer to a year.

DD was quite early at 17 weeks, but it varies so much. Fried's little ones have been much later.

8 months. he was too busy crawling to do much sitting still!

6 months for dd 7-8 months for ds.

dd would roll over at 4 months and would cover the whole room to get to things she wanted. So we never had that happy phase with her, when you could sit her up and she would play on one spot!

She was walking at 11 months and talking at 12. And now at 9 she still hasn't stopped!

DD sat at just over 7 months, only rolled right over at 9, crawling by 10. Try sitting him in a small box, just bigger than the width of his back, but with room in the front for him to play with some toys. That's what finally got DD sitting.
I wouldn't worry for a couple more months at least.

DS1 was about 7.5/8 months before he sat up unaided, but had been crawling since he was 5.5 months. He's always had everything arse about face, bless him.

dd did sitting, standing, crawling and cruising all in a few weeks at around 10 months. She went rapidly from this little blob that just lay there, to a little person who could go and grab things.

ds was also about 10 months. He didn't crawl till his first birthday though, and didn't walk till 17 months. Fantastic. I hate it when they can reach things ...

A friend's baby who was born a couple of weeks after my ds, was running before ds could even sit unaided. If they had been our first babies, she would have been smug and I would have been worried. As they were our second babies, she was jealous and I was smug!

Ds had one of these entertainer activity centre thingies when he was bored but couldn't sit. You can get them fairly cheaply on ebay.

5 months. Now at nearly 7 months she still doesn't roll but can stand holding herself up. Seems they all do things when they feel like it.

8 months, and walked latish. Is now a strapping 14 year old! Yours sounds perfectly normal to me.

dd sat unsupported at 9-10 months, she didn't crawl properly till 12 months and at 16 months she is now walking!

Ds also crawled before he sat . He could sit unaide without wobbling at about 9/10 months old. I remember going to an outdoor swimming pool with him when he was 8 months old and watching some women sit their babies on towels at the side of the pool. I remember thinking that if I did that with ds he would fall over and hit his head on the tiles!!

I suppose the main problem with it was bathing him. I had to bend over the bath and hold him flat (supporting his head) for ages as he'd topple over really easily - not great on the old back!

He rolled and crawled really early but didn't sit or walk until later - He started walking consistently at 16 months old
