My dd is almost 9. She is the height/size of a 12yr old. I have now discovered pubic hair. Is this normal ? Should I take her to see my GP ? I feel worried.

If she is the size of a 12 year old then it is probably just early puberty and nothing to worry about ... Girls seem to be going through puberty younger these days ... my niece started her periods at 11 and when I was teaching there were a couple of girls in Yr5 and 6 who were developing early and starting periods. At 'almost' 9 she does seem particularly young so do take her to the GP if you are worried of course ...

I was similar to your dd, with breasts, pubic hair and started periods aged 9. On holiday aged 10 walking around holding hands with my dad a couple thought that I was his much younger girlfriend ! If she has other signs of puberty than it's all probably normal. If you are worried then you could take her to your gp but I wonder how happy your dd would be with that?

Thank you to everyone, I don't feel worried anymore. I don't need to take her to see my GP. I just have to accept that she's growing up fast.

I was 11 and my Mum was 10. I remember in one of those Robert Winston programs he linked it to weight, so if she's tall it makes sense. (I was tall too)

I wouldnt worry, I had PH at 9, 32C breasts by the time I was 10 and started my periods at 11! so no, its not abnormal.

My dd is 8 in Oct and has had pubic hair for quite a few months now. She is a normal sized 7-8 year old but developed hair under her arms about a year ago and the PH beginning of this year. There are no other signs of puberty so I am not too worried. I was much later than this but my dh is quite hairy so I am thinking she is taking after him, poor girl!!

I know it's really worrying to think of our little girls growing up. I took Freya, my 8 and a half year old to the doctors two weeks ago as she said she had a sore boob and when i felt it there was a lump in one of her breasts but the doctor said it was a breast bud and nothing to worry about. I didn't know whether to be relieved that it wasn't anything serious or worried sick that she was growing up, but with three daughters i guess i just have to get used to the idea.

It seems that puberty is starting earlier and earlier, i know i started my periods when i was 11 but i couldn't for the life of me remember when all the other stuff happened. I guess the rollercoaster of puberty is well and truly in action, god help me (or god help my husband living with four women!).
