Hi there. My lovely wee girl had seizure in January which was unexplained - she had eeg which was clear. The neurologist says that she has a v large head - i have to buy 2-3 years hats for her head (she is 15months. Since we have been going to neurologist he has suggested mri scan but he is of opinion that it is unneccessary since she is developing normally. however he now seems to be putting pressure on for her to get mri scan which would involve general anaethestic - we don't have to go back to hospital until november and i feel it is a lot to put my little girl through when there may be no need - however if we do mri scan and it is clear, then this uncertainty is over. I don't know what to do and wondered whether any other people had been through this / or what your views were - sorry this is so long!

Hi there, i started a thread yesterday along similar lines re my 18month old son. (under toddler epilepsy)He had an MRI in April and was given oral medicine to sedate him - it normally takes 15mins to work and he FINALLY conked out after 45 mins!! We were home by the afternoon, no sides affects at all.The result was fine and it reasured me he didnt have anything in there causing the seizures. Seems to be "one of those things". I see the consultant every few months and they are always happy for us worried parents to ring up if we have a problem. For peace of mind i would totally recommend an MRI.

My dd had an MRI when she was tiny for a blood vessel problem. She didn't have an anesthetic, they only sedated her. She slept a lot that day, but had no other effects from it.

The doc must be suggesting the test because he believes there is a need for it. If the scan shows something, it gives the medics more information about your dd, so they can help her. If it comes back clear, that also gives more information in that certain conditions would be ruled out.
