My dd is 2.9 and still puts everything in her mouth. Does any1 elses child do this st this age and is it normal? How can I stop it as I am scared that she will end up choking on something 1 of these days

My DD hasn't done it for ages - not much after 1 when she stopped. She is 2.3. However I know she has friends (and some are older) who do it. In fact DD has started doing it again in imitation of her friends. Like she will pick up their dummy and put that in her mouth even though she has never had one.

My Ds is 3.1 and will still occasionally put things in his mouth. I've secretly observed him and am convinced in his case that its a bit of the old attention seeking thing going on. I reckon I must have made maybe too big a deal out of it at some point in the past and now he's figured that's how to get a good reaction out of dear ole mum. Like you, however, i worry that he'll choke and feel that the usual ignoring wrong behaviour stuff isn't appropriate. I guess: stay alert, don't over react and show no appreciation what-so-ever. Btw, does your dd have a dummy? My ds does and i'm wondering if that oral satisfaction thing is pertinent.

My 4 yr old never really did this at all, my 2yr old on the other hand regularly has that pursed lip look of something stashed in his mouth and like you I worry about choking.

My dd stopped a while ago but has started doing it again recently. She is 2.3. Have had to take some of her toys away from her and putting her hair in a bobble and clips mean watching her carefully all day!
She really does seem to be doing it for attention now.

My dd 2.10 was never a particularly "mouthy" or "sucky" baby, though she did like to comfort feed until weaned at 17 months. Always rejected a dummy as a baby.

Since a few months ago, she started wanting a baby's dummy, been sucking her thumbs occasionally and developed the habit of chewing the ends of her hair all day long. Could be related to new baby on the way, though.
