I know it's been done before, how old was your LO when they started to crawl?

Dd 1 did'nt realy show much signs of movemant until she was at least 10 months, sat up at 10 months, crawling at 11 months and walking at 13 months.

Dd 2 5 (months today) has been rolling since 3 months and is now trying to crawl. She manages to pull herself across the floor on her tummy.

I feel a bit sad as my baby seems to be growing up so fast.

My son started to crawl at around 9 months. I've heard it said, though, that if you have a second child they tend to progress faster than the first child because they try to copy the elder one.
I'd look at it this way - you obviously have a clever baby!

Ds1 sat up at 6 months, crawled before 7 months. Rolled at 3 months.

Ds2 isn't rolling yet, at 17 weeks.

my ds is nearly 12m. he rolls like an Olympian but shows no interest in crawling or pulling himself up.

My present baby has just stated to crwl at seven months. i think they have all been like that, apart from the first who never crawled, but got up and walked at 10 months. The last one was walking at 9 months. the pattern I have seen both from my own children and others is that they more petite the child the easier they find it to move!

kittywits that might explain it. ds is long. i'm only just over 5' but he was on the 99th centile for length last time we went and is probably off the scale now - it's the first thing people comment on when they see him

dd started crawling at 6.5mths (bit of a shock as we weren't/still aren't childproofed!)

DD has been 'doing the caterpiller' since 5 1/2 mths, and today (7 1/2 mths) shes just started to use her hands as well as her feet to crawl. Shes also been pulling herself up, although hasn't managed it fully yet. Like you MsFogi we werent kidproofed and it came as a shock. We are also in the middle of packing up and moving, its a nightmare trying to keep her out of stuff!!

Marne, children are born with the instictinct to pull themselves across surfaces but loose the insitinct for lack of practice.

DS could "crawl" on his tummy for 3 feet when he was one week old, I have a friend who followed the a program to help children with paralysis with her "normal" baby and the girl was crawling properly at 3 months. Having said that, after months of laying on his back DS took quite a while to go pass being sit, then at 8m he started cruising (no crawling) and at 10m he started forgot about cruising and started to crawl and didn't walk unaided until he was 15 m. So... who knows!

Ds was quite early at 5 1/2 months. It's fun but otoh you have to start watching them so closely that much sooner!

DD crawled at 9 months, started rolling at about the same time - started cruising the furniture at around 10-11 months - started walking at 15 months. She's now 16 months and I have trouble keeping up with her!!

My 2nd was much quicker than my first. Ds rolled at 5 months, sat at 6 months, crawled at 8 1/2 months, walked at 13 months. Like peanutbutter and kittywits say, he was tall (99th centile) too and I'm convinced it slowed him down. He's still not very body confident and I'm sure it's because he doesn't know how long his arms and legs are!!

Dd on the other hand, sat at 5 months, never rolled, bum shuffled very fast by 6 1/2 months, moved on to crawling at 8 months and walked at 10 months. She's much more petite but also much more determined to do what ds is doing so I think she's got a lot more motivation!

ds1 started pulling himself around on his tummy at about 7 months (he sat at 6.5 months). He graduated to proper crawling later and then walked at about 13 months.

ds2 started at about 5.5 months (he sat at about 6 months). He also started pulling himself up and cruising at about 7-8 months (which was earlier than ds1). He didn't walk till 14 months though.

I am convinced ds2 did things earlier than ds1 because he wanted to be able to follow ds1 around. He did walk later but took his first steps earlier. I think he was such an efficient crawler and cruiser that he got fed up with the slow speed of walking in the early stages, so gave up trying until he could do it confidently IYSWIM.

He's now nearly 21 months and is def. growing up so much faster than ds1 did...I feel a bit sad but it's also such fun watching them together.

dd sat around 6 mo, crawled the day she turned 7 mo, walked at 9 mo. She was/is petite.
Ds sat by about 7 mo, crawled at 9 mo, was walking by 1st birthday, just. He is chunky.
A friend's ds never crawled, but 'walked on his knees' till he was nearly 18 mo. He could get some speed up on his knees too!!

DD2 was born 19 Dec 2005.
Around the 20 April, a few days before she was rolling over.
on 15 June she went onto all 4's and rocked back and forth and a few days later she went flat then up ont all 4's then flat again and got across the room doing that.
On 4th July went from crawling position to sitting and back again over and over
18 July - pulled to standing.
By 26 July was crawling properly.

I felt a bit sad when my teeny baby started crawling, it all seemed so early.

I can't remember, how do people remember these things? Am I just the crappest Mummy?

Report
Thomcat · 15/08/2006 22:02

I'd never remeber anything usually but keep a journal for DD1 and one for DD2 so have made a note.

I had these things noted in one of those baby record books. Just been transferring some of the information into her first year scrapbook - hence knowing by heart at moment.

I've got development books for all of mine because it's impossible to remember otherwise. When expecting ds1 I asked my mum some stuff about me as a baby and she couldn't tell me. I was determined that I would keep a record.
It's really nice to be able to look back through their books and compare how they did things like crawling, sitting, first teeth, words etc. Although it's extra work I'm glad I'm doing it and it's something I will be able to show them when they have kids of their own.

Franny, I can only remember the crawling by ref to holidays! DD must have started crawling by 6 months as I remember her crawling in Italy on holiday. She might have been crawling before we went, but I don't really know.

I didn't do a book for DD (but should have done as I can't remeber teeth, when her first words were etc). Am pg again but seems a bit mean to have all the info for DB2 when DD1 will just be told in very general terms .
