If DS1 does something I don't want him to do (eg throwing stuff, which he sometimes does if I say no to him - so I try not to say it unless I really mean it, iyswim), I will sometimes pick him up and explain why he shouldn't be doing whatever it is I've said no for (are you with me so far?!).
He's a very verbal 2.3yo and understands everything I say.
So I might say "DS1, if you pour water on the television, you will break it".
He will listen intently.
Then he will point at my face and say "Eyes!" in a tone of amazement. And then go "Mmmmm" in a sing-songy agreeing tone if I say, neutrally, "Yes, Mummy's eyes" and then his attention's lost. But he usually doesn't then repeat the behaviour I'm explaining to him.
Hmm. Just wondered whether my eyes glow ginger or something if I'm telling him off
