atm she drinks from a beaker. She can drink from a cup but hasnt got the coordination and if shes fed up of it she just drops it on the floor.
Shes 2.2 years. Is it still ok to have a beaker or should I just follow her around everywhere with a cloth.

she's fine with a beaker!
When my DS started nursery at 3 the teacher was keen to impress that they had their milk out of a "big boys cup" so I reckoned that by 3 they should be able to drink out of a cup.
DS1 still preferes a water bottle thing - so do - it cuts down on the mess especially when it's hot and you want to leave their water out so they can have some whenever.

DD mainly drinks still from a beaker or straw. Maybe you could introduce a cup at mealtimes but when she is not at the table stick with the beaker. I keep thinking I should be putting more effort in with DD but DH is not helpful and if I get her out a cup gets her a straw or whatever.

[bozza in case you were wondering]

DS is 2.4 and is just starting to use an unlidded cup at mealtimes.

He is hopeless with it and I think that's partly because with lidded cups they can be careless! But I'm not concerned, he'll get it eventually.

Agree with Tommy at DS' nursery they expected him to have lidded cup when he started at 2, but teh 3 year olds all have unlidded.

dd1's just now got the hang of it and she's 3.

if, however, she is drinking and her attention is diverted she still spills.

DS is 2.1 and still has a beaker - Avent one with the green spout. He can drink from a cup but if he's had enough he just pours the rest out over the floor, like your DD kbaby. Don't worry about it. At nursery they all have cups so he's improving!

DS is 2.8yrs and can drink from a cup but prefers the sports bottle things. To be honest I just put water in cup at meal times but milk in sports thing as he is less likely to spill it.

DD has been having open cups at mealtimes (so up at the table) since she was about 2 (2.8 now), but this is mainly because she was drinking DSs (open) drinks anyway. She still tends to have a lidded cup or sports bottle for drinks during the day as she has a habit of leaving them in the middle of the floor, and everyone else manages to knock them over.

My daughter is 18 months and has an open cup at mealtimes and drinks very nicely. I wouldnt trust her with it away from the table though so she gets a nospill cup when it isnt mealtimes.
