Did your kids all cruise before they walked?

... and if not what did they do?

Ds is crawling, but often gets up on all fours, then rocks backwards so he is just on his feet (though his hands are only an inch off the floor!!) He then generally falls on his bum. Just wondering if this means he is getting ready to stand alone. He doesn't pull himself up on anything or cruise round the furniture - so different to the dds!

Yes, my ds did it that way. It took him a little longer to get ongoing than his friend (same age) who use to pull himself up on the furniture.

Both mine cruised first. Still waiting for ds to realise he can actually walk....

CADS, do you mean he did it the same way ds is doing, without holding on? Did he then progress to standing alone?

yes, that is what I mean. Once, he could stand for a period of time, he started walking. The reason I say it took him a little longer is that by the time he stood up his legs were tired. But he was only 3 wks slower, his cruising friend.

DS cruises and has done since he was 8/9 months old about the time he learnt to crawl. He loved 'walking' with us holding him even as a litle baby.

At 15 months with 7 months of practise under his belt he STILL doesn't walk however!

Ds could cruise, but rarely bothered to. If whatever he wanted was more than one cruise-step away, he'd go down on all fours. He did love walking holding our hands, though.

He walked at 14.5m, and also generally stood up without help, just as Miaou describes.

DD cruised for months before walking at 10 months. First holding on to two hands, then one hand or a toy or stable furnture, then less stable or just a finger for support ... before taking a few tentative steps and going for it.

DD didn't really crawl for long though. She just wasn't interested. She did briefly at 8.5 months but would cruise instead given the chance esp as she was then able to pull herself up anyway.

DD could barely sit upright for months, but surprised us all by walking at 12 months. She didn't cruise at all, just started wobbly walking.
