Hiya,

I'm new to this site, but just have a couple of worries about my 8 week old girl. Shes my first, so i just wanted to sound a couple of things out with you experienced mothers...

Shes really strong, and has been ever since day one. Shes got amazing strength in her neck and has been able to hold her head unsupported from the start.

In the last couple of days, she just won't stay still tho!! Shes learnt to shuffle on her bum, and seems to like it!! I put her in her play gym yesterday, left the room for 5mins, and when i came back she was nearly all the way out of it.

In the cot, she can now shift herself from one end to the other, and can also spin herself round.

I've gone in a few times to find her arms or legs thru the bars, which worries me. I don't really want to put a cot bumper all the way round because shes so nosey, i don't think she'll like not being able to see out. But, i also don't want her to hurt herself...

Also, at what age can you leave a soft toy in the cot within her reach?

Shes started waking at 4am, and not wanting to settle back down after a feed - which is not really a good time for me to play with her...

I've got one of those spiral toys on the side of the cot, but i think that just encourages her to stick her arms between the bars of the cot!

It all just seems so early for her to be so mobile... When i put her on her belly yesterday, she can even sort of commando crawl.

I'm just a bit worried that she'll hurt herself thats all...

Thanks for your help

oh my goodness!8weeks!i wouldnt worry but i would call my hv just to get advice.iv never heard of this kind of development at this age.
You musnt worry or she will detect it.I had to take toys off the cot as ds played with them. Its tough if they get bored as when they are in their cot its time to sleep not play.Bit harsh maybe.

abi that's quite amazing.
I wouldn't worry too much about her hurting herself in the cot. My ds2 was a great wriggler and used to flip over on to his tummy to sleep from an early age he obv hadn't read the SIDS advice lol).
Also he would somehow get from one end to the other but be quite safe - obv not able to climb out or get feet etc stuck.
Yr dd would be fine to have a toy in the cot as logn as it's a baby safe one - maybe one of those comforter dolls that you can get now?
commando crawling at 8wks is incredible. You might want to start babyproofing your house now....

Its a bit scary - i thought i'd have loads of time to baby proof!! lol!!

I think i'll ring the health visitor just to get some more advice.

In fact, shes not even 8 weeks til monday. I can't believe how strong she is already!!

Try putting her in her cot in a Grobag then she cant get her legs stuck between the bars.
