Is this normal naughtiness?

Just had day from hell with DD (4.5), OK she's excited at introductory day for reception today, but she [a] escaped through a hole in the school's fence (which shouldn't be there but still...), [b] led a bunch of kids running out of the schoolyard into the road, and [c] I've just caught her leaning out of her bedroom window to 'say hello' to someone. So I've screamed like a lunatic in front of 90 parents (twice) and now had to put her into her room for 5 minutes over the window incident. She's also been more rude and defiant than usual. Any suggestions? She turns a deaf ear to speeches and ignores even my loudest "scary voice". We're using a star chart for sleep problems right now and it's working, but that's reard for good behaviour - no idea of how to deal with stuff that's this bad.

(a) resourceful
(b) leadership qualities
(c) friendly and precicous

Gosh, she will have no problems at school. Much better than the kid who can't make friends and gets bullied. She's probably just very excited about starting school.

my ds (almost 5 )would run through a hole in a fence if he knew he would be accompanied by other kids. He has no problem being the one to initiate as long as he has some company!

he too would lean out of a window to say hello to somebody-he thinks he is invincible!

When he started reception last year (july baby!) he was sooo defiant for a while-it is a lot for them to take in.

He has calmed down lots-stil has his moments. I am sure your dd will too

Thank you both! I feel more confident now - I had a chat about 'big girls listen to mummy' and she seemed receptive... It is a leap for them, isn't it?
