Not bearing weight on legs at 14 months

Is it normal for a boy of 14 months to be unable to balance on his legs? His legs collapse under him if you hold him up to stand. He can sit up but doesn't want to crawl or pull up or walk.
Does it mean he's going to bumshuffle instead of cruising?

I'd say so. Dd didn't walk until she was 18 months old. She's now 2 and runs everywhere!

The little girl that we share our nanny with can't stand yet and she is 13/14 months. She seems very frustrated though, and cries a lot. Was your dd the same MrsD? I have suggested to our nanny that we get one of those 'stationary' walker things, so she can 'stand' up and play with things, but nanny says she has tried them at play group and baby just dangles and cries.

If he can't take weight on his legs at 14 months, I would be a little concerned. I would take him to your GP for a check-up just to make sure. He may just need a bit of OT or physio to help him strengthen his leg muscles. Did he have a one year check up?

I am worried about him jambot so I think I will take him to the GP. He hasn't had a check since 8 months. i didn't know that he was meant to have a 1 year check.
thank you for your words camberwellbeauty and mrsdoolittle, it's reassuring to know that he'll run about eventually.
He doesn't cry much bluebear but I do carry him around alot and he is very heavy.

Flollop - hope I haven't made you worry too much. It's just that at my DD's one year check up (now 15 months) the paed did ' the pull to standing test' as one of the parts of his assessment. He was checking to see that she could bear the weight on her legs.
If your DS is big, this may also be a factor.
Don't spend the weekend worrying now. Sure he'll be fine

My DD didn't walk until 16 months so please try not to worry as she is 22 months now and runs about everywhere - talk to your GP but try not to worry as milestones are just an average and you need below and above average figures to calculate that average, I find that a sane way to view it anyway!
