My 6 Year old DS behaviour concerns

Hello All, this is my first post and am hoping you are able to advise me. On saturday night my DS was told to go up to bed and get into bed as he had been allowed to stay up and watch the x factor which he loves. He asked me to go up with him and I said no because he had been allowed to stay up later than normal, he could just go up and get himself into bed. Lights were on, pj's on, literally all he had to do was get into bed. He then went into the kitchen and got a knife out of the cutlery draw and came into the living room with it pointed at himself!! I calmly told him to go and put the knife back where he had it from and told him to go and sit at the bottom of the stairs & wait for me. I went and sat with him and asked where he had the idea to do this, he told me it was in his mind! I asked why he had done it and he said " because I wanted to get your attention"
he isn't allowed to play with computer games, or watch age inappropriate films or TV and I have to say I am at a complete loss of what to do, how to approach this recent behaviour. Any help, advise, knowledge would be gratefully received.

The first thing that struck me here is that 6 is too young to expect to put himself to bed. A 6 year old needs tucking up. The second is that your son has been exposed to some kind of violent imagery somewhere...either online or at a friends home?

It wasn't so much put himself to bed but more go up & get into bed and then I'll be up to check etc, both my children are generally put to bed every night with a story and a snuggle, but as he had been able to stay up as a treat I wanted him to do as I had asked him. Re the imagery they boys are not allowed to play games or use the internet at all without guidance etc but I do take ten points made. Many thanks

Does he spend time at anyone else's home? My DD was being told terribly ghost stories by a friend's older sister when she went for pladates! She's 9 so it's not really the same...but I did allow her on playdates at 6...
