4 year old still not dry at night!

My DS is 4 tomorrow and is weeing so much at night that her pull up is sopping wet every morning so I am washing sheets every day. Surely by the age of 4 she should be dry at night? She also wears a pull up during the day if she is having quiet time in bed and she will always wee in it even if she only wears it for 5 minutes! Potty training was a complete nightmare with her and even now she has accidents regularly. We have tried a few nights without pull ups (a few months ago) but she clearly wasn't ready as her bed was soaking even by the time we went to bed. Any ideas what we can do to help her be dry at night? We keep telling her to take herself to the loo or potty if she needs a wee when wearing a pull up but she has never done so. Starting to get a little bit peed off (sorry!) with this especially as I have two littler ones.

i don't think there's a whole lot you can do to train them.

dd1 didn't have a single night until midway through reception when she was 4.11
then one day she was dry, and was dry every night afterwards

Completely normal at that age and there isn't really anything you can do to train them, it'll just stop when they're ready.

DS1 is 5.2 and not reliably dry at night (accidents at least once a week) and I know a lot of his friends are the same. I think it's up until 7 is normal?

Dd is 5 and has the odd accident at night. Have found if I wake her up a couple of hours after bed time the accidents are reduced. No juice hour before bed etc.
it's very normal, just frustrating. Maybe get bed mats to help with night time accidents x

Can you get her to wee in the night? A pull up might mean she doesn't bother. I'd stop using them, get decent waterproof protectors and wake her for a wee at around the Time you go to bed. My nearly 4 year old wees in the night!

I wouldn't worry, my eldest dd has only been dry at night for 6 months and she's just turned 9! I used to be pulling my hair out trying different ways to make her stop wetting but in all honesty there's not a huge amount you can do.

I tried taking her to the toilet in the night, dry nights, no dry nights, medicine from the doctor and loads of other things but the only thing that worked was just waiting...sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear but for her it was just a case of getting older and her body being ready to produce a particular hormone.

she does still have a waterproof cover over her mattress now but fingers crossed she doesn't really need it any more as it's been months since she wet the bed now.

you can't train dry nightness.
you can encourage it a bit (last drink an hour before bed, big wee last thing before bed, lots to drink during the day).
he will be ready when he's ready, for some dc it's at 2yo, for others 8.
until then pull ups and easily washable bedding is your friend!

DD is 4.3 and we only get the odd dry night. She won't put a pull up on at bedtime, so I have to wrestle one on her when I go to bed. Am not worried at this stage.

my dd is 4 next month, Only just in the summer got the hang of using the toilet for poos. Frustrating but normal. She wears a nappy for bed. Not even gonna try getting dry yet.. prob not for ages.. it's not an issue. Pull ups are not absorbant enough for 12hrs sleep. Relax and just put him back in nappies, if he doesn't want to do that then...
no drinks late in evening and a big wee before bed. Chat to him that if he wakes up and must go for wee on toilet or potty(put in his room with a night light he can reach.) Good luck.

I wouldn't worry. I wasn't dry, neither were a couple of my siblings until at least 7.

My mum had a trick - layer a waterproof sheet, then a cotton one, then waterproof and then a cotton one again. Even three layers. So when you have to change in the night You need only pull off the top layer.

Have you tried a 'dream wee'? A friend takes her boy, age six, from his bed to the loo, sits him on it and lets him wee at about 10pm every night. He doesn't even really wake for it.

There is a problem with the continuous use of pull-ups you know. They all go into landfill. Where they NEVER decompose. Ever. An extra year's use of pull-ups will add 365 plastic nappies into the soil. Where they will leach chemicals and stubbonly refuse to rot. I hope that's an incentive to take their not-yet-night trained children for a night wee so they at least have a chance of not wetting themselves during the night. That would be the environmentally responsible thing to do.
