My little one is 6 months old and is very clingy. Has any one else had this problem? It tends to be really bad when he hasn't had a nap in the day and very tired.

Are naps a problem shy? Not having any naps in the day at 6 months is unusual. How's his feeding?

Yea I've had a big problem with naps in the day. Little one will sleep for about 10-15 mins or 30mins then wake up. But he gets very tired but just won't sleep.
I thought he was feeding not to bad, but little one is breastfeed and been a slow weight gainer.

The clingyness combined with the short naps sound and slow weight gain sound like it could be tongue tie. Have a read and see what you think Smile

Are you get tingling any RL help with the slow weight gain? Is there a bfing group near to you that could help? There is some info on kellymom about slow weight gain here.

Pop him in a sling for chunks of the day and go for walks. He'll get more chance to sleep that way. What is his day like feeding and routine wise? How do you try and nap him?

He's clingy because he's tired. Also he's 6 months old! Tiny baby. My dd was like this (now at 20 months she's much more sociable).

Is he on solids yet?

Are you getting any RL help? Not sure where the tingling came from BlushGrin

At that age my Ds needed a nap after being awake for 90 mins or 2 hours max...maybe your LO is overtired? Could you spend a day tryin to make sure he gets a nap every 90mins/2 hours? Even if it means putting him in the buggy and marching him round the block so he gets off to sleep? If you can catch him before he gets more tired he might sleep longer?

How are you getting on now very? Have you managed to get to a local bfing group?

Hi JiltedJohnsJulie, about the same. Really struggling to get little man to take a nap in the day. Which I think affects his sleep at night now.
With the weight gain should of said it's only been the last few months it's been slow. He was a gd weight gainer before.

About How much weight is he gaining on an average week?

If you are struggling to get him to nap, does he nap in a sling or the pushchair or car?

I really do recommend you get him checked out for tongue tie. A Breast Feeding Counsellor will also be able to help you with the slow weight gain. Is there a Le Leche League group near to you? It will tell you on their website here. If you ring the number they should be able to help. If not, try their main Bfing Helpline on 0845 120 2918.

Will he nap if you both go to bed together? If you feed him lying down in your bed?

I find his weight very strange because in the last 4 weeks he only put on 6oz. But a another time he put on 8oz in two weeks. Hv says he always gains weight, just very slowly at times. I had a look and no breastfeeding group by us. Hmm

Keep trying the naps, after every 60-90 mins of awake time, put him down in quiet dark room after a feed with soft toys/comforter, even if only sleeps 15 mins, wait 60-90 mins, then try again...

Really sorry that there aren't any bfing groups near to you. Have you tried asking your HV if she know where you can get him checked for tongue tie?

Poor little man really going through it today. His not getting much sleep and now his tummy is making a rumble noise.
He started baby rice two days ago. Can that give him a bad tummy?

Yes, his gut might not be mature enough for solids yet. If his tummy is rumbling, have you tried giving him an extra bf? Smile

I noticed to night little man keeps grabbing his ear. I wondered if my sterilisers was a bit old too and not doing it job? I brought another one today.

Is he grabbing his ear because he is tired or do you think he might have an ear infection?

Report
JiltedJohnsJulie · 05/09/2013 21:53

Oh and which steriliser did you get? Smile

I'm not sure about the ear pulling. He is teething as well. He's got no temperature. Feel sorry for the little man Hmm.
I decided to get a Philip advent 3in1. Hoping it'll be ok.

If you think it might be teething have you tried the teething gel or even a dose of ibruprofen?

Report
Veryshy1 · 08/09/2013 00:26

I'm using dentinox gel but doesn't seem to have much effect. His night time sleep is starting to get really affected now and still not much sleep in the day. HmmHmm

very you really need some help. I think this is a feeding issue from what you've said on various threads. Are you sure there isn't a Bfing Group near to you?

Is hiring a Lactation Consultant instead an option?

Veryshy1 · 08/09/2013 13:25

I've found out at my local children centre there is a breastfeeding group. I do think it's his teething though because he keeps sucking his bottom lip and chewing on his finger.
When he's rooting his whole hand goes in his mouth.

Have you given him any painkillers? Ibruprofen is good for dental pain.
