What time does your toddler nap, how long for and what time do they go to bed? Smile

Ds 1 age 3 nearly 4 occasionally still has 1.30 nap at 1pm if he's done something really active. At 2 had it most days. Sleeps 7 till 7

Ds2 age 20 months naps 12pm till 2.30/3 at home but only 1 hour 30 at nursery. Also 7 till 7 bedtime.

Just out of interest; when did DS1 go into normal bed? And how quickly did he get used to it? DS1 takes ages to go to sleep; (from 7). DH says stop naps but I'm reluctant as at home with him and DS2 who is 9 months and its the only peace I get in the day!

DS also 2.2 has a religious 2 hours every day, goes off between 11.30 and 12.30. I wake him after 2 because he wouldn't sleep at night. Bedtime is 8. Ps i too plan to nurture every last second out of nap times, I'm not letting them go without a fight

My 2.2 year old would sleep for 1.5 hours in the day and then sleep 11 hours at night (8 - 7). She was in a cot at that point.

By 2.6 she was in her own bed (no transfer issues at all) and no longer napping in the day, still sleeping 11 hours at night (8 - 7).

She has never got off to sleep well (ever, from birth!) and it is no different now - bedtime starts about 30 minutes before she drops off, and involves some stories and a little singing and if we are unlucky, a little arguing about if it is "sleepytime" or not (IT IS!) before she gives in.

She will occasionally fall asleep in the car on the way home from activities like swimming, but only gets about 10 minutes max and it does not seem to have an effect.

Can't really remember, think it was just after he was 3. Only involved taking the bars off his cot bed though.
I also kept the nap as long as possible due to the second. :)

DS who is 2.5 will have a nap at nursery of about an hour at 12ish I think. If at home we normally put him down at 11.30 and he'll nap for anything from 1 hour 30 to 2 hours 30.

He can't cope without a nap despite what DH says and has a major meltdown if he doesn't get one like yesterday. I'm looking at you DH for thinking he'd be fine. However, his nap can be pushed back to allow us to do things if necessary, but the knock on effect of that is it affects the time he goes to bed.

He normally goes upstairs for teeth brushing and stories about 7.30 and is in bed about 8, although earlier if I do stories and later if DH does. Then he sleeps til about 6.30, although his wake up time does vary quite a lot.

DS is 2.7 but his routine has been the same for quite a while now. Bed by 8, awake between 7 and 8. Naps around 1-2pm for 2 hours most days.

So need some advice following on from my initial question!

A couple of weeks ago we moved DS1 2.2 into a toddler bed as he was climbing out cotbed, we also needed him to be in a bed for our holiday at the beginning of September. He hasn't been too bad in the transition but we have needed to do rapid return as he was in and out. He takes him anything from 30-60 mins to settle.

He used to do 7-7, and nap 12-2(ish) when he was in cot bed. Now he won't settle till 8 (9 last night) and is awake 5:30/6 and will only have a hour at lunch and not every day!!

What has happened to my normally good sleeping toddler!

Do I cut nap out completely and just hope he's so knackered; he goes to bed and settles at 7, but then I run the risk of him being unsettled due to over tiredness?

We also have DS2 9 months to consider to and don't want him too disturbed.

Help please Hmm

I would persevere or put back in cot tbh

2.2 year old here ( and 3 year old), and they both do 9pm-9am bed, 1.30-3.30 nap. Youngest still in cot and eldest we only took bars off a few weeks ago ( after he was 3)

I would just get/ take/ hire a travel cot on September this time, as will allow you to get both children to nap in holiday midday heat

He could be ready to drop his nap I think. DS1 was 2.1 when he started getting out of bed repeatedly, resisting naps, and taking ages to get to sleep if he'd napped that day. We just started to have quiet time instead of nap time and bed times became alot easier and he started to sleep for more like 12hrs rather than 10hrs (plus 1hr nap) that he had done.

DS2 is now the same age and stopped napping 2 months ago aged 2 months but he still sleeps in a cot for now.

I remember how hard it felt stopping DS1 napping when I still had a 6 week old baby to look after, but once you get over it, life becomes easier and the older child looks forward to time with just you when sibling is asleep.

We transferred out of cot two weeks ago and have similar problems, only worse I think ;)

She used to sleep fairly well 8.30-6ish, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more. 1h30 nap at nursery and similar at home (sometimes a bit more), I've been reluctant to drop nap as I am pg and often need it myself! (prob more than she does) and she gets very grumpy without it.

Since moving to bed (well, now old cot mattress on the floor) we are all over the place, one or two ok nights, but mostly terrible to get to sleep latest at 10.30, waking 4-5 times in the night and immediately crying for us, waking early, e.g. 5am.

Last night I tried sitting with her in the room every time to get her to sleep, she took 40 minutes to go off finally at 8.30, but woke at 12.30 and then 4pm, after 4pm I couldn't leave the room as she woke up every time, so she got a good night's sleep but mine was terrible.

Partly wanted to say - I share your pain/I wish I could get my DC to sleep so long, and partly wanted to hijack in case anyone has good ideas.

My 2.2-year-old DS goes to bed at 7-7.30 and sleeps for between 11 and 12 hours. He also has an hour's nap after lunch.

He's still in his cot, although the days of that are numbered. We'll convert into a cot bed in the next 2-3 months, I think. Reading the above responses I'm not in a hurry, but he has climbed out once ...

At 2.2 she sleep from usually just after 8 for 12hrs, naps for 1.5hrs when at home. She naps less and has to get up earlier for nursery and going to grandparents' while we work.
She is still in a cot. I have read nothing but bad stories about transitioning to a bed so won't do it until we really have to.
