6 month old stopped drinking water

Hi all, I introduced my 6 month old to water when she was 4 months old. Until 3 weeks ago she was drinking three quarters of a sippy cup of water each day. However now she will hardly drink any water at all. What can I do to get her to drink water again. Her poos are so hard :(

Is she having enough breastmilk/formula? My 8 month old still hardly drinks any water, a couple mouthfuls with each meal maybe.
Also if you have started weaning poos will naturally become more solid, and can change depending on what has been eaten.

Yes she is still in breast milk roughly Four times a day and once during the night. Her poo had become solid but now she is suffering from constipation - little round rock hard poos - it's sad to see her strain so much. Today I'm tryi to give her some juice squeezed from an orange to see of this helps. I suppose I will just have to persevere with the water.

Three full meals each day. Today she had porridge and blueberrys for breakfast, rice and lentils for lunch plus a plum, plum for snack and roast chicken ang trimmings for dinner plus fruit pot. I also gave freshly squeezed orange juice but she didn't drink much of that!

wow - a lot of different things in a single day, probably way too much for a 6 month old. Dc1 was constipated badly after we started weaning and both GP and HV advised to introduce foods much more slowly... and we had lactulose which helped as well

That sounds like quite a lot of food for a 6mo old to me, that's not meant as criticism. When my DD was that age she was on 1 meal a day and over the month we slowly increased to 3 meals by the time she was 7mo but I don't think she had a snack until she was about 10mo and we dropped a milk feed. I think it's supposed to be more milk than food at this age.

My DD suffered horrendous constipation & was prescribed lactulose but she was screaming until she couldn't breath. Water is important but try steering clear of BRAT foods (banana, rice, applesauce & toast) as they bind them up even more. Foods that will help are plums, prunes, apricots, spinach, broccoli, strawberries...there are more but I can't remember them all.

Plenty of babies get this reaction when starting weaning as they're bodies have been used to a milk only diet, that's why it helps to have a slow approach and keep up the breastfeeding and food is to accompany it. Good luck.

Thanks, I will drop the snacks and encourage more breast feeding. But my snack was just plum snd other fruite to get her poo moving. Hopefully this will make a difference. I weened my baby at 19 weeks and have been advised to give her three meals a day.
