I just stopped giving mine a bottle for milk at 1 - he might not like it at first but he will come round. His milk consumption will probably lessen though. How often does he have the bottle?

dd uses a bottle at bed time and a cup during the day, I jsut got rid of all but one bottle and said that this was her "special bedtime drink" and that she could have a cup like a big girl during the day. Worked for me, but them dd has older siblings that she wants to copy and would still prefer the bottle if I gave it to her!

dd1 also nearly 3 and has morning bottle of milk. everything else from a cup.

don't see what's wrong w/it or what's the rush.

she's a little kid. she won't be for long and then all the fuss over how long she had her 'Bobo' will seem pretty silly and distant.

secur · 03/05/2006 11:31

oh yes, did you use a lidded cup? DD will only use one type of lidded cup other than this it has to be a cup with no lid at all which she sits down with (she is "too big" for baby cups lol!)

DS had one morning and evening till Xmas - he was 4 in August! I wasn't worried although DH was.

We gave the bottles to Santa to give to babies who didn't have bottles. He asked for a month or so on and off but doesn't ask now.

both. he'll drink out of a cup but we give him forward milk in a bottle at bed time. he's not the best eater and he doesn't drink a whole lot during the day either so we just like to give him a little top up at the end of the day.

yes, my dh is 2 and still has a bottle of milk in the morning and one at night - I'm not worrying about it, I figure he will give it up when he is ready although HV said he shouldn't have one beyond one - so i stuck it in the cupboard and didn't mention it at his 2 year assessment

If you do want to give the bottle up \link{http://cgi.ebay.ie/Nuby-Tommee-Tippee-toddler-baby-cup-no-spill-no-valve_W0QQitemZ7761491206QQcategoryZ20409QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\this cup} has a very soft spout and similar to bottle.

No. Got mine off bottles at about 10-11 months. Ds3 is 19 months and hasn't had a bottle since last summer!

I wouldn't worry if his milk intake goes down - at 2 he should be having a good diet so you can give him cheese, yoghurt, rice pudding etc as well.

Also, during the day, have a non-spill cup around with water in - just leave it around so he can pick it up whenever he wants and have a little go with it. He'll soon get used to it and then you can switch altogether.

my dd2 (aged 3) reverted to a bottle when dd3 had them. I know there are meant to be problems with teeth etc etc, but I'm not going to stop her until I introduce cups for dd3. I know it's not ideal, but I think that in the general scheme of things it's not really that bad.

ds3 has a bottle with a spout and he's 2.7.

Just recently he's asked for a straw too.

Ds2 still uses a cup wiyh lid and a straw because he's so accident prone and milk is always the drink he spills.

Yes, DD drinks milk from a bottle but water from a cup.
DS was using a bottle for milk at 3 when he told me he was too big for a bottle and could he have it in a cup please?

I agree with the comforter thing, with my DS I was faced with a no bottle = no milk situation! Although he drinks out of adult cups with everything else and has for ages (he's 2.2)...

he has one bottle in the morning.. (don't know why morning but he screams otherwise) and he hast to go to bed with his dog, tiger, blanket and teddy... and every now and then a plastic pig.. he's so particular.

both mine loved their bottles for just before bed & first thing in the morning. DS stopped his just before he was 6 & DD still has hers & she is just 4. They brush their teeth & drink everything else out of cups. We are always in such a rush to remove all baby comforts from children here in the West. If your little one likes his milk in a bottle, Tigeryuan, don't feel you have to rush it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

We just stopped the bottle one night when Tilly was about 20 months and gave her a Bob the builder cup that we had in the cupboard and she downed the whole mug full! She is going through a spilling phase at the mo though so sometimes has one of those big free flow flip tops (from Mothercare?). They go in the microwave too as cold milk is another excuse for a tantrum!!Grin
Don't worry too much about milk consumption going down as she is drinking more than ever now from open cups, in fact it's becoming a bit of a problem!

My DTS are 26 months and have their morning and evening milk in a bottle. It is no big deal and I'm happy for them to continue to have their bottles until they are ready to give them up. They drink tea from their cups and water from their lidded cup with a spout. Why the rush to cut out the bottle? One minute they are babies, next they are toddlers and soon they will be at school. Your DS will have more years without using a bottle than with using one so let him beSmile

DD was 3 and still using a bottle for milk, I seriously considered attaching the teat to a four pinter from Asda, then one day she just decided to give it up. I didnt need telling twice.
