She is 5. She does not get scared easily and she is big fan of Dr Who and Merlin (blame dH)...today after school she asked for dvd and I chose The Snowman because she hasn't watch it in a very long time....she was kind of concerned from the beggining, but when the song 'walking in the air' came up she tottaly freaked out....I suggested to fast foward or put volume down but she would not have nond of it. Perfect excuse for watching crap Barbie...

The Polar Express if you're looking to be festive.....

My 5 year old loves Nim's Island (despite the Daddy being lost at sea for most of it). (lots of beautiful scenery and some fantastic phosphorescence)

Can definitely recommend Nim's island, watched it by myself to check it for DD and it's a lovely film Xmas Smile

Oh. You mean you want films that don't scare her?

Oh I am glad to know - sorry..- there is another 5 hear old terrified of The Snowman! Aren't 5 years old funny? Mind used to love it when smaller and the 2,5 year olds I look after want to watch it every day. I am going to get Nim's Island for her stocking...and maybe toughen her up with the horror moves suggested above after Christmas.........

Mine has always hated the snowman. Would cry buckets. Wouldn't even read the book. It's him melting she doesn't like.

She's not disliked any other film before or since. She's never cried at any other film (apart from Lassie and Black Beauty).

Now, I have watched all of the horror films above and many more, but even I shed a tear when The Snowman melts - it's sad!

Bambi fucking scarred me for life. Once I was watching one of those shitty 'list' programmes while doing the ironing - you know 'Your Top 100 Films With Deer In' or something, and they played a clip from Bambi. I thought it was going to be 'that bit' and even the thought of it, at my great age, was too much for me - I could feel the lump in my throat and my eyes started pricking. It wasn't, anyway, but just the suggestion of it got me going.
