Teething at 10 weeks?!

Is this even possible?
My little girl (10 weeks on Friday) has started becoming very unsettled and generally inconsolable. Her appetite seems to have dropped, she's started dribbling LOADS and is always keen to put things in her mouth. My DP claims there's something 'hard' in her mouth but I'm convinced it's just her gummy ridge bit...

Can she really be teething this early on? She has spent most of today crying and nothing we can do seems to have placated her, she's normally such a content baby!

Any advice/experience?
x

I posted a very similar question lilstarry1 about 11 months ago. I was convinced DD was teething for all the reasons that you gave but she wasn't. Her first teeth arrived at about 5 months.
I discovered (from other wise sources) that you may well be able to feel teeth but that is just because they are all there, even when the babies are born, but they are not necessarily about to pop through. And the dribbling could just be that she is playing with her tongue.

Sorry, others may well say differently but I can only speak from my experience.

One of the babies from my antenatal group got her first tooth at 11 weeks. Now at 14 months has 16. My dd has just got her 5th tooth and is 2 days younger !!

my DD is 14 weeks and started the same thing from about 8-9 wks. I was asking whether she was teething and got told that she could prob feel 'movement' in the gums but that ut was unlikey the teeth would come through yet. This is standing true, but she is getting more aggitated and literally bites off my fingers if i go near her. Its fraustrating for me also as she is still at the stage of not knowing how to hold something to her mouth for any length of time so as to help alleviate the problem ( although everything she does hold goes straight to the mouth...) she too is dribbling an awful lot and has times in the day when i think she wants to let me know shes fraustrated by having a dicky fit!! When i last felt her in her mouth her gums are very hard, i cant feel any teeth but i can see two little white spots on the lower level.. i dont think it wil be long!!!

My DD got her first tooth at about 11-12 weeks and she had a full set bar two by her first birthday. My friend's DS had his first tooth at 12 months. They are all different.

DS had his first two teeth through at 4 months. I didn't consider it a possibility (I don't know why Blush ), the poor mite must have been in so much pain. I bought the teething gel very early on for DD, just in case.

My dd was all of those things you describe at a similar age - especially the dribbling. I was told by all of those older and more wiser mums that she was teething and needed teething gel, panadol etc She got her first tooth at 15 months!!! Your dd could be teething or could be having a few unsettled days. The dribbling thing is something babies do and I personally don't believe it has anything to do with teething. good luck

Thanks for all the info/advice... I'm still not sure, am going to take her to see the HV sometime this week, she seems happier today, still a complete dribble monster but happier :)

8 weeks Shock thats some going! I bought some bonjella cold for use on DD only to find that its not to be used in babies under four months. What else is available?

8 weeks!!! So I suppose 10 weeks is more than possible Shock. I did some reading on the net last night and they do say teething can happen from birth, but the average is 4-6 months!

It's a complete minefield :) It's hard because each baby really is different!

My DGD went through this recently and continues to dribble at 4 months. I think she just started dribbling at this age, but from 3 months on she was also plagued with a lot of colds which made her unsettled.

Hmm, yea I guess most babies are rather dribbly. I spoke to the HV today who said it is possible... and that I can always use a teething gel! I just really didn't even consider having to buy such things just yet! It is so scary how quick everything happens!

It'll probably be a hard year - DS started teething at this age and had almost a full set by the time he was 1. But 1 bad year is better than 2!

My nephew cut his 1st tooth at 8 weeks. And they can 'teeth' for a few months before any teeth actually appear.
