what do your boys' growth chart look like?

My 2 yo DS was 52cm when he was born Which I think is on the tallish side.(my cousin was 54 cm and he's now 1.92 / 6 ft 5ish).
After being in the 75th percentile, he's now gone down in the 25th and people are surprised that he's 2 because he's so short. And he's not quite walking yet as he's had meningitis. But I've never heard that that has any impact on growth.
My GP said one shouldn't pay attention to height because growth spurts can happen at any time. But he's a grumpy and bored guy so I don't like to ask him questions.

Can one say pretty reliably that a baby will the a tall adult if he was a tall baby? Or is it more complicated than that?

Your GP is right really, children don't follow a smooth curve for their growth.

As long as he is growing and his height and weight are pretty much in proportion I wouldn't worry to much.

DS is 3 and a short arse, his cousin is 4 and very tall - both weighed pretty much the same at birth and were similar lengths. My nephew just grew much faster.

There's an old theory that you can predict adult height based upon height at second birthday. Try this but it's a very rough estimate.

www.bbc.co.uk/health/tools/child_height_calculator/

In your DS's red book there is a section on how to work out adult height more accurately.

Yes that's why I'm worried, based on that saying he'll be really short!
With a 6ft2 dad and a not that short mum! I don't like this saying at all!

I'll adhere to the surprise growth spurts thesis.

Well they do have spurts. My DD was tall/big at birth, can't remember quite but she was 75th for weight. Age 2 she was on 25th percentile and looked very young for her age, made worse by not having much hair! By 3 she had got back to the 50th percentile and had a bit more hair. She has just turned 4 and is now back at 75th and maybe a bit taller (and a bit more hair but still not loads!!). She's about 106cm tall now. 6 months ago she was about 92... that's a spurt for you! Smile.
